jenlove - why 2 runs instead of one longer one? just curious how your distances are going since we're c25k grads and all was it icy out for the second run? bbrrrr

poppy ~ I'm still doing the Christmas contract that reads 2 weightlifting sessions and 3 runs a week. So in order to get my 3 runs in this week, I had to run 2 different times today. I almost feel like I'm cheating. Next week I'm going to get in some good distances. My LR is still at 3. I'd like to do 4 or 5 next week. What about you?

Yes, it was icy in spots tonight but not too bad. I have a feeling the roads are going to be glazed over by morning. Snow Day anyone?

Had dinner at my parents and watched the original Rudolph afterwards. Geez, everybody at the North Pole, Santa included, had sort of a hateful streak! Am I just weirdly sensitive that I don't enjoy that movie very much?

towsonmama, have fun w/ the black forest cheesecake! I'm not a big coffee drinker and definitely not a coffee snob, but I think you can get something like a Mr. Coffee coffee maker for ~$20. That's what, like 4 trips to Starbucks?

ah yes, the contract! good for you! i am only at 3.5 miles and i think my half-marathon training program has me upping it to 4 this week or next on my LR day. i am trying to squeeze in one more run a week - so 4 times instead of three, but it will be short, like 1-2 miles.

Hey, does anybody want a Runner's World Training Log (paper, not online type thing)? I got one as a gift for re-upping my subscription and I log on Excel. I'd be happy to mail it if anyone wants it.

I ran 4 miles this evening - 2 runs in the same week! Seriously, I have to get going again. My appetite somehow goes through the roof when I don't run enough? Had a pretty fruitful day, though. Played the piano in church, then got the rest of my hose decorated - we already had the tree up, but got all the rest of the ornaments on and took out all the other indoor things. We sort of gave up on outside lights as our house is just shaped wrong and too much of a pain to hang lights. Grocery shopped, did several loads of laundry, and managed to finish one Caroline mitten in between playing the piano this morning at different services and laundry this afternoon. Even got in a run. Now, since I was a bad doctor and didn't finish all my charting on Friday I have to do some before bed, and then hopefully some snuggles with dh. Someone please yell at me to run this week!

eksmom - I was thinking of kaleidoscope yarns, then was wondering if I should choose knitpicks and get some needles, but I decided if I do the kaleidoscope thing I can spend all my gift on yarn without guilt!

Re: coffee. Well. It is truly the lifeblood of my existence. I love it. Love thinking about it. Love making it. Love drinking it. I brew it nice and dark and put lots of good 1% milk in (or a mix of milk and eggnog right now!). Don't give me no flavors or no instant or no other corruptions. Just good, strong coffee. I get the big bags of beans at Costco (currently doing a Sumatra French roast that I really like) and I have a burr grinder. My coffee pot is nothing special -- just a little 4-cup drip maker -- but it works just great for me. I like French Press, too, but that's a bit too intense sometimes. I have a great espresso maker, too, but no longer have the patience to prime the pump, pull the blank shots, froth the milk, lower the temp, pull the shot.... you get the picture. Parenthood ruined my home latte habit.

Still happy about my nice little run yesterday. Hope to get out there twice during the week ahead and once next weekend.

Ah Robotussin my friend... It didn't help 100%, but instead of waking up every couple of hours coughing I only had one spasm at around 1a and it didn't last as long. Even though I'm still coughing I already *feel* a little better. I knew if I could just get some rest my body could get on top of it.

How cold do you think is too cold to take bugs in the jogger on runs? I have this sleeping bag thing that they get zipped into...it's just really cold this morning with wind. But I'm worried about my race saturday and the lack of running.

Do you have a rain cover? I'd use that for the wind. If not, clothes pins and blankets can make a cover that keeps out the wind.

I sent DH to Target yesterday to get some sort of craft-in-a-box for DD to make for great grandparents. I was thinking some sort of hokey "make a Christmas ornament" kinda thing. He came home with a box that had two "make your own book" books in it. DD drew a few pictures and then we printed out photos from the last year. Under each one, she wrote a sentence. She loves to draw fireworks, so she drew some, then wrote "I loved the firwrks in Juli."

The last picture was her and me. She drew hearts in between us and wrote "I love my mom."

She is currently working on the second book, which will go to her grandma.

So, for $12, we got: 2 gifts, 3 hours of entertainment for DD, enthusiasm for writing at home.

ds crashed before 7 pm last night. and slept until after 7 this morning.

the snow storm is finally here and we could get 8-12 inches or so depending on how things go. I think our babysitter is sill open today, but time to call her. I kinda wish she would be closed and then I could just hang out at home and go sledding and get ready for next weekend.

BBM, seriously, I have read and heard that people slather Vicks on the soles of their feet, then put on socks, and it helps a ton. The only cough syrup that has ever worked for me has been the rx codeine stuff.

Today has to be a rest day for me. I had trouble sleeping last night, between dd's spinning head-to-foot, the sump pump, the water softener flushing, and the heat kicking in. But I know that when I was awake, I also felt quite sore. It feels good to be running longer now, and I am pretty happy with my speed, but I wish consistency were easier. It looks like I am going to need to start planning again. If I can just run 4x a week through winter, that would be excellent.

poppy, what kind of biscotti did you make? I am thinking I'll drop some off in my dad's truck at his work this AM. And maybe take the muffins to work.

Subbing. Hoping you all still remember who I am. =) It's seriously crazy around here, but things are good. We replaced our car, our new cat has FIV (but seems OK and is a love), we did lots of traveling over Thanksgiving and I am finally recovered.

I have some gym time scheduled this week that I am really looking forward to.

DrJen, I was thinking of you while DD and I were at the zoo the other day. We missed you guys, and then we saw the baby polar bear cub nursing (until his mama got tired of it and cuffed him) and we really wished you'd been there. It was a last minute thing so I didn't phone/email, but maybe we could do some of the zoo lights or something together?

I'm a little irritated the last two weeks. I keep having appointments and volunteer things I have to do every morning. After this week, everything like that will have to be after 9:30. It's the only time I have to exercise and I get grumpy when I miss it. Urghh. I have 3 things in the morning this week. I'm going to have to go running in the evening on those days. I'll go to the gym the other two mornings.

I have a 7.5 year old dd. HELP! Is this a "special" age for every little girl? Moody, crying...other out of character behaviour. She has always had a quiet confidence and now it seems to have vaporized. I'm not sure what to do, what I need to change etc... More sports maybe? She always does dance once a week. We were doing soccer, but that's ended. Maybe we need to take up something over the winter like swimming. Then I wonder if it's too much. Parenting!!!: She hasn't really connected with any of the kids in her class, but they all seem to get along. We don't know any girls in the neighborhood..I'm wondering if I need to go through the directory and look up who all has girls her age and try and get together with them.

grtmnt~How much snow did you get? I'd go ga-ga for just a few flurries here. We're just stuck with a gray sky and periodic sleet.

I feel like my spirits are pretty good in terms of exercise given that I can't run for six weeks. I'm going to call today to get an appt. with a podiatrist so I can begin a specific healing regimen. In the meantime, the kids and I are heading to the library today to see if they have any exercise dvd's that won't hurt my ankle.

mommabelle~Forgot this for the second part of your post. My oldest is only 4 so I don't have any input on that age. Social issues are a killer for us already though.

i just have to post and say that I the snow. everything is canceled today (except work of course!) and we have an independent babysitter who doesn't close. so my drive to work was so pretty with the snow on the christmas lights and no one else on the road because everyone is staying home with their kiddos who can't go to school or daycare today.

we have about 5" at this point. dh is up at the mountain this morning having some runs before work. the bike shop has been getting a lot of orders lately, thanks Monica for the abundance theory stuff. I've been spending a lot of time thinking about how we are having a lot of orders - and so we are.

just happy to work away here watching the snow fly.

We had a crazy weekend. Just lots of stuff to do. I had dinner with my mom for her big 5-0. It was nice. MIL came into town and hung out with the kids for a while. (I miss my MIL...seriously.)

Today we have a b-day party to go to at one of those annoying indoor jump-house type places. The kids should have a blast though. I have to get some shopping done this morning though, so no run for me today unless it happens tonight.

My Dad has that and he loves it but when dh and I tasted the coffee we seriously both thought it was coffee that had been brewed the day before and left in the pot overnight and reheated (and, um, it kind of is). It was nasty IMO.

Me too! I've never felt the Rudolph love, from the annoying whiny voices to the hate to the creepy stop-motion movements, none for me thanks! The only Christmas special I love is the Grinch cartoon. Ah boo dooray, ah poo snooray welcome Christmas come this way!

I just sold our fake tree for $45 so I can go buy a real one for $35. I know it isn't exactly an economic genius move but we've had a fake tree for 7 years and I just couldn't handle it anymore (and it seemed like the perfect time to be able to sell the fake one as opposed to having to give it away after xmas.)
All this talk of biscotti and chex mix is seriously causing me to consider rearranging my plans for the day. Not good! But it would be a lot tastier!

BBM - I'd do the vicks on the feet too. I make my own vicks stuff but it feels the same on the feet and I think it really truly helps, those anti-bacterial, anti-viral essential oils sinking in and getting zipped through the system by all the nerves and um, medians, that end in the feet. I know, it's all quite woo woo, but it makes me feel better. I hope you do too!
