BBM, I hope that sweater is a good fit. I would only be worried about the length of the sleeves and body. Sounds like it will be a good fit, around.
Poppy, I'm wondering the same thing about bathrooms. Oliver is 6 and I still don't let him go into a public men's bathroom unless 1) It's a single bathroom with a lock on the outside door, or 2) He's assured me that there is no one in there and I am waiting outside, or 3) I'm very comfortable with that particular bathroom (like at school). But, this also means that dh is stepping up in the bathroom duty area. When we're together and Oliver has to go potty, dh will take him. That's very recent. We had a huge argument (Oliver and I...dh was on my side, too) about this very issue when he was barely 4. He was quite certain he could take down and pin any man who tried to get to him in a bathroom. He had no concept of his own limitations. I wonder if that's a male thing. Now, at least, he knows I'm not going to budge on the rules so he doesn't try to disobey. But, I know the time is coming soon when women won't want him in their bathroom anymore. I need to start loosening the reigns. I loved the Dean K. story.
That's hilarious!
We are Mario Bros. fans, here, too! My little brother (who is almost 30) brought our old Nintendo over for Christmas and taught Oliver to play. It was really fun!
Eks,
Oliver has been so difficult lately, too. I'm sure that for him it is a combination of bad diet and too little sleep. Getting back on our regular schedule will help with both. As far as computers go, we haven't had much TV in our lives. Very little reception and no desire to pay for satellite. But, they have been using the computer from the very beginning. Naomi started with Jumpstart Preschool back in '96 and we haven't looked back. They don't have a lot of games but they do play online games at PBS and Nickelodeon. As they've gotten older, they also use miniclips.com. I probably use the computer the way a lot of parents use TV (and the way I would use it if we had it). They play for less than half an hour a day, a few times a week. However, if I'm really busy or I'm letting them stay home without me, the computer keeps them busy and they forget to fight.
I use it so much that I'm not a good example. I also have strong opinions (what a surprise, eh?) about the use of computers in school. Like someone else said, I think moderation is great! I need to be more moderate in my own use of the computer. I know that this is impossible, but it almost seems like today's kids innately "know" how to use computers. It's uncanny.
truelife and tjsmama!!!
Welcome home, JayGee! The January Fitness Challenge looks fantastic!
Moonshine,
I'm sorry to hear about your grandma. Is there a chance you have a rib out of place? That has happened to me a couple of times. The worst was when Sophia was a tiny baby. I couldn't lay down in bed...had to sleep sitting up. Couldn't take a deep breath. Could hardly move! It took a couple trips to the chiropractor to make it better. I hope you feel better, soon!!!
Mommabelle, 19 floors with two kids! Yikes! I hope they get the elevators fixed! Let us know how the Madrigal goes! I wish I could be there.
Megs, Happy Birthday!!! Congrats on the new cat!
Kate~mom, GL tonight!!!
Plady, I'm checking out BFL. It looks great. I'm sorry your hurt your neck. What a funny way to have it happen, too.
Towsonmama, I'm sorry to hear about your neighbors. That's really awful.
Balancin1, what a great resolution!! I totally agree with you. The Dingos are really good for your health...physical as well as emotional and psychological health.
JenLove, unless anyone else has already requested your copy of Eat, Pray, Love, I'll take it! I loaned my copy out and I don't think I'm getting it back. And that's a book I need in my library. I missed the discussion about it here, maybe? Maybe not.
. Anyway, let me know how much. I'll PM you my address.
Monica, what a great year for running! And fast, too! I think it's great that you devoted an entire year to consistent, shorter runs. That's what I probably should do. I just lack the discipline.
Po7, is your MIL an alcoholic? Sounds like a frustrating get together.
We are too short on cash to go out with friends tonight, so we invited them to come over after they go out. We could have quite a few people here, tonight! Folks are bringing an appetizer to share and we are providing cheese and crackers, popcorn, and beverages. I hope it's low key!
I'm trying to find a good half marathon training program. I may go with Hal Higdon's beginning program. It's 4 days of running with x-training. It's only 12 weeks, though, so it wouldn't start yet. But, I need to spend between now and when it does start getting back up to 4 mile runs. So, I'm going to write out my plan for that. I ran yesterday and the day before. Short runs at a high intensity. Unfortunately, when I went to upload yesterday's run into the computer, it wasn't there! On top of that, my account at mygarmin.com isn't working. I'm not sure if their software ate my run or if my device just didn't record. It appeared to be recording. I'm stumped. The positive side is that I think my heart is in better shape than I'd thought. I should be able to run at my target HR. I was afraid I'd have to walk a lot of the time.
Happy New Year!!! What are your resolutions? I need to write mine.
