Should I break out the pacifier or ??? advice welcomed

So, DS and I have developed this lovely evening tradition wherein he nurses around 7:30 cause he's hungry. Then, as I am trying to get DD to sleep, he hits major fussy time.

He wants to suck on something and sometimes I can give him a pinky, sometimes not, so often he ends up back on the boob. He's not hungry, and he's already full, but he's still swallowing tons of milk. Too much milk.

So by the time I get DD to sleep and bring him out of the room, since he's not asleep, he's ready for the nightly vomit fest. It just escapes from him like he's drunk 4 litres of milk (although rationally I know he can't have had that much, right?).

So, the question is, should I break out the pacifier so he can suck on that? I'm not totally against pacis, DD has one and got one for essentially the same reason, but I was hoping not to have to give one to this guy.

Any other ideas for how to calm him down when he clearly wants to suck on something? Or on how to totally empty the breast, which would be his first choice, obviously

We have a 10 wk. old and I was feeling kind of the same way a few weeks ago. My first babe had a paci but none of the others. I bought this little guy a binki (as we call them) and dh and I tried to use it sparingly. By day two though the baby seemed all confused and I had enormous, painful breasts. I also use NFP to avoid pregnancy. I don't think I'm ovulating yet, but I really don't want to set a precedent with the bink and end up not nursing him enough and my fertility returning earlier.
Do you nurse one breast per feeding? You can also give the same breast for two feedings. Then your babe may get less milk. Can dh help with one of the children at that time? Usually my dh puts the older three to bed and I just take care of the baby.

I don't know but i am subbing because i am having exactly the same issue only Bear has a paci and it still doesn't stop him from wanting to nurse from 9p.m. to 2 a.m. continuously or the puking because we are doing thyat to, spectacularly as it shoots out of his nose and mouth.

Did Silas have any latch issues? I wouldn't do a paci if he did since he's still young BUT if ot, I would try it, definitely.

Also, there's this homeopathic relief stuff we're using that settles Lachlan's stomach so he doesn't gorge as much. It might be a tummy upset causing him to think he needs to guzzle milk. http://www.ehealthland.com/Cocyntal.asp

We got it locally at a health food shop.

Conrad has started getting pukey on me and I think it's because I haven't been as conscientious as I should be about burping him.

I'm also wondering if there is a chance Silas has acid reflux? I've heard that makes them pukey and also want to nurse a lot for comfort.

Otherwise, in absence of any medical reason for being pukey aside from taking in too much milk... a pacifier might be handy and give you a break. We started using one with the blessing of our lactation consultant, but backed off when I noticed he was getting sloppy with his latch. The LC recommended waiting until 4 weeks under normal circumstances; if he's over 4 weeks, I would go for it and just keep an eye on the latching.
