babies and the phase of the moon

I thought I'd move this to its own thread so we don't take up the check-in thread.

My FIL talks about a doc who did EDD's based on moon phases...he believed that pg lasted 9 phases of the moon. Which would mean that the phase of the moon when you conceived would be the same as delivery. I think it's normally really close to the "medical" EDD, but it's just interesting to me.

There's also a theory that more babies are born on the full moon (my dd was) but the doc who delivered me told my mom if she wanted to have babies by the moon, she could do it by herself. He just didn't buy into it.

To use the moon chart http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/MoonPhase.php look for your conception date and then look for the date 9 phases later...it will be close to your current EDD.

Mine is my dd exactly December 24th. O'well here is to crazy ctx for another 3 weeks!

According to that I should have had this baby already!!

According to that, my "moon" due date is Sunday, the day before my EDD. I'd be 39w6d.

Ya know, I think I could handle that.

Mine is a day earlier than my mw's estimation.

Not in your DDC but had to look.

If I go by the chart my EDD is pushed back 6 whole days! (Actually ok with me, lol!)

Puts me on my due date...the day after the new moon.

Mine "moon edd" is 6 days away. That would be perfect, and it's DH's day off. Haha, back to reality aka being pregnant forever.

Holy cow typing that I just realized my pointless due date is 10 days away woohoo

mine was my due date exactly, too! that's interesting.

Yep, mine was my due date exactly. The 9th. That would be great... it's getting so close!

I used astrology to get pregnant (and to avoid it in the past!), so I'm all for this prediction method. Except I've read it's 10 moons, not 9.

The theory is you conceive during the moon phase under which you were born so no sex that week! Will be using this again to avoid babymaking after LO arrives

According to that chart I should have had my baby 2 days ago.

Maybe it took some time for sperm and egg to collide :

I read in one place an explanation that made it seem like you start counting from the moon phase you're in, and once you get to 10 you know your baby is coming soon. Which would be the same as counting 9 phases forward. But I dunno, I saw other things that said 10 moons without specifying that.

Also, I find it really interesting that you used astrology to avoid pregnancy, so I am gonna go compare my old FAM charts to moon phases and see how they link up.

Hmm, all 3 of my babies were conceived just after a new moon. I was born the day before a new moon.

How reliable is this astrology method of bc?

The 2 times I've been pg, we dtd on the moon phase. Otherwise, we've avoided the actual phase and the one before. Been using it for almost 15 years. I was born the day before the full moon, so it's easy for me to keep track :

Mine says Dec 15th just like I've always thought and in my dreams there always is a calender shot with the 12-15th really bolded. I'd totally be down for that day!!!

Interesting. I was born in the last quarter, 4 days before the new moon. I don't have terribly fertile cycles, but when I was fertile, it was usually either during the last quarter or JUST at the start of the new moon. (Except for one month where I O'd at the full moon.) This baby was conceived at the start of the new moon. Last quarter of the moon started Dec. 1, new moon is Dec. 9 - next phase, it's Dec. 31 for last quarter and then Jan. 8 for the new moon. Hmmmm.
