The boy I babysit just walked through the door...he got shots today and I didn't know

They didn't tell me and ds is not vaccinated at all....should I worry??

I try to keep him away from babes that have just recently had shots and I know I can't forever but he JUST went to the dr. I wish they would have told me but know one knows that ds is without vaxes...

I have NO idea..... I've had my shots but am not immune to rubella o one of the other M's in the MMR......

I don't know what shots he gots.... my mom was exposed to rubella while I was pg and I always joke that is the reason the vax never worked even though I was revaxed as an adult......

It's okay. Don't be afraid. I watched kids that were always being vaccinated for 4.5 years while my kids were not, including all during my dd's pregnancy. Nothing major ever happened, outside of a few runny noses and coughs.

Was it the chicken pox (varicella) vaccine? That can shed, but if you've had chicken pox naturally you should be okay. Your ds will probably be okay too. I think my ds got something from the one boy who had the varicella, but it was only three spots, he never got sick, and they just disappeared. It wasn't a big thing.

This is just some common sense advice, I'm sure you already do this, but I'll put it out there. If you are changing diapers on a recently vaxed kid, just make sure you really wash your hands. Or you can also use gloves (they sell disposable ones pretty cheap) if you can. And make sure when you dispose of it, put it somewhere where it's not going to come back out.

I know the polio virus if the kid gets the OPV version of the shot can be active for 30-60 days. But cleanliness will take care of most of that risk.

Don't worry about the vaxed child playing with your non vaxed childs toys. Or anything that goes in either kids mouths. It's all right. If you are really concerned, put up all the unwashable things when the other child is there, and only have washable things when he is. That way you can wash them when he leaves.

Just wash your hands a lot, and wash your ds's hands a lot too.

It's going to be all right.

How old is the boy your watching?

If he's following the schedule, by his age, then you can pretty accurately guess what he just had.

If he's right at 12 months, it's the chicken pox one.

If he's between 12-15 it's probably MMR tossed in with either Hib or Prevnar. Maybe both

15-18mo it's the DTP or DTaP

I figured it would be ok...or my dh never would have made it through childhood!!

I talked to our chiro's wife....her kids aren't vaxed and she said just to be careful of body secretions. A friend of her dd was in a little wading pool with a just vaxed that morning little girl. The vaxed dd peed in the pool...giving the unvaxed dd mild polio

So, I'm jut being careful. I already asked for friday off so I might just ask for tomorrow off too...then I won't worry about it

So, the little boy has gone for the week. he will not be back till monday. When his mom picked him up he had a horribly runny nose and a low grade fever.....

I explained to her that due to family issues ds was not vaxed.

She said they meant to tell me the day before but it slipped her mind. He had chicken pox, DTP, and 2 others she can't remember.

So, my chiro said not to worry. Ds is a weekly chiro patient and has been healthy.

I'm doing ok with not worrying..... for now

Because there has been enough questioning MMR with autism, and combining it with either Hib or DTP and the effects, and blah blah blah, so when they give MMR, they only give MMR. So there's a good chance no MMR was given with his shots yesterday. I could be wrong, though.

I also wanted to say, you have my sympathy. It is so hard to watch other people's kids, and doing it while pregnant, strength to you, honey.

From what I have read they are attempting to combine the MMR and varivax vaccine.I think in Australlia it is already going on in studies. Remember vaccines are safe and combining them is safe.Your child,according to an article I read,could handle 100 vaccines at one time-with no problem. I kid you not that was in an article I read!
