Definite to Junegoddess

wagamama - Soooooo exciting!! Definitely keep us posted!! Sending lots of easy labor vibes your way.

thomlynn - bummer! We're likely going to be switching raw milk sources for this winter since the one we go to now is over an hour away one way. Unfortunately this means we won't be getting any more eggs. I have some still in my freezer from last time and then will be getting a couple of dozen more tonight. I can definitely relate to the no eggs sentiment! Darn this whole eating seasonally thing!

Huh? Freezing eggs? How? What? How? Huh? I assume not in the shell - how do you freeze eggs? I must know!

thomlynn...that is a bummer. Can you get slightly less perfect eggs from someone else? We can still get eggs through our raw milk sources - of course, they won't be as loaded with yummy goodness as summer eggs. We just picked up 3 dozen yesterday, but the shells are definitely weaker and the yolks not as yellow. But an unfortunate and hopefully temporary thing for me is, I've decided quite suddenly this week that eggs are kind of...nasty. Maybe having them daily for months has something to do with it...! I think I may need a little egg break. Well, I'll be able to mix them into things, I guess, but no more egg sandwiches for me.

I don't know anybody else off the top of my head that sells eggs. But I did find an urban homestead in our town the other day I've been meaning to visit. I want to ask them if they do internships

Bummer! You got me all excited (not that there's any room in the freezer with all the frozen milk & chicken stock...but still! One day it coulda come in handy)!

Hey ladies, I've been away for a while. Have we discussed weight gain recently? I'm just wondering whether there's been a noticeable trend during our collective TF pregnancies toward more/less/same weight gain as previous pregnancies. Any observations?

I've heard that the rule of thumb is underweight mamas tend to gain more weight, overweight mamas tend to gain less, and everyone else is somewhere in the middle. Last time I started out at 155 pre-preg weight and gained 24 lbs overall. This time (thanks to extended BF'ing and TF!) I started out at 127 pre-preg. At 18 weeks, I now weigh 134. But I'm hardly even showing yet, so that's no indication of how much weight I'll gain by the end.

Some of you other ladies who are closer to your due dates - how's the weight gain going?
I am due Feb 11 and I feel about the same size as I did with ds (I don't track my weight while I am pregnant) when I did the Brewer diet. I am even about the same shape with my belly sticking straight out and not too muhc change in the rest of my body. I gained 34 pounds with ds.

It's my first, so I can't compare, but I started out at around 116 (or a little less) & I'm 148 now, with 11 weeks to go-- we're looking at 40-50 lbs for me I think! All this full-fat stuff. Amazingly, though, I don't look much bigger. Well, at least breastfeeding is supposed to take it out again!

I find my weight to be a little weird. With DD, I ate fully mainstream, out of the What to Expect... book. I gained 41 pounds, and I was induced at 41 weeks. I gained exactly at the rate of 1 pound per week - very steady.

This time around, I am on schedule to gain slightly less this time. Though it happened differently because I had morning sickness during 1st trimester, so didn't start gaining until second tri. I gained a lot then, and it's tapering off now. I'm at 37.5 weeks, and I've gained 32 pounds. I *look* like I've gained a ton. I have such a short waist, so this baby is all out there in front - as was DD.

This pg's been a little bit odd for me. I was on metformin for the first several weeks of my pg and was incredibly sick so I have a feeling I lost some weight. Of course, I didn't weight myself at the beginning so I have NO idea what I started at. Then it seemed like for the majority of my pg I had a difficult time gaining weight - babe hasn't seemed to suffer growth wise, however. Now my weight gain has picked up some, but I've also been eating more carbs/sugary stuff. :

In total I guess it'll probably be somewhere between 15-20 lbs, but I don't really feel that's an accurate number. With ds I had a much more American high-tech pregnancy experience (although nowhere near the number of u/s my SIL had - she had FOUR (!) 4D u/s for a normal/uneventful pg). I gained more than 50lbs that time, but I also got pg right off of being on the South Beach diet. Oh, and I only lost about half of it.

I also ate a What to Expect diet last time and gained about 25 lbs. This time, on a halfway-there TF diet (good on healthy fats & veg, poor on healthy grains), my weight gain has been the same.

The only difference is that I gave birth at 39 weeks last time, and this time, I'm going on 40 weeks (tomorrow). So I'm thinking baby is staying in there because she's loving the raw milk and eggs!

hey everyone,

hugs to junegoddess...any updates?

the first time around i gained 35 pounds on a SAD diet. i really miss carnation instant breakfast. i started off at 115 lbs at 5'8".

this time, i started off at 113 lbs and i think i've gained maybe 10 lbs. i'm 24 weeks.

my weight gain has been too low and now i'm really worried about it. i know i shouldn't be, but i am really underweight and i don't look healthy. to be honest, i feel like i'm developing an eating disorder and i need to get some help from a nutritionist...that is my goal for tomorrow morning...find a TF friendly nutritionist.

i am afraid of food. i am afraid of grains because they cause me constipation, as does dairy. so no grains, no dairy, no soy, i hate pork, i can't eat meat more than twice a week (makes me nauseous)...i'm basically down to veggies cooked in different oils, chicken, fish once a week (afraid of contaminants), meat twice a week, eggs and lentils. i eat lots of nuts and seeds and fruit for snacks. i just have such a high metabolism, i walk everywhere, carry a 2 year old up and down the stairs all day and am afraid of anything non-organic/non-TF. i need to come to a middle ground quick or i think my baby will suffer...then i'll never forgive myself.

sorry to rant. i feel like that's all i do sometimes, but no one around me, including my husband, understands how sick and awful i feel when i consume certain foods. i feel awful when i don't consume them, too, so i'm kind of in a lose/lose battle right now.

i will look diligently for a nutritionist tomorrow. does anyone know of a person who does consulting online?

thanks.

ETA: i'm going to find an almond milk recipe tonight and try to create a fat filled smoothie with that as the base. wish me luck.

s I am glad you are looking for help if you are concerned. We honestly cannot afford to eat all TF (free-range/organic) so I do the best I can. I mean, we have to eat. If grains and dairy give you constipation then don't eat those, but if you need to eat some conventional foods please try not to worry. The most important thing is to eat real food IMO. I also try and remember that worry/obsessing over food is not good for my health. I don't know if you are religious, but I ask God to bless the food to the nourishment of my body and to help my baby grow healthy and strong before I eat and that gives me more peace. s

If you need a smoothie base with lots of calories use full fat coconut milk. It is really yummy and creamy. Avocados would probably be good for you too. You can make a dip for your veggies with it.

Desertpenguin--Congrats and welcome to the club!!

Hey everybody, I've hardly been around for I think almost the whole month's thread. Sorry about that! We've been sick twice recently and I'm still struggling with being really tired. Overall this pregnancy is going so well--I feel good except for the tiredness and the colds--but I do put alot more energy into taking care of myself when I'm pregnant!

Like alot of you, I'm also struggling with eating too much sugar; this time of year is really, really hard. I tend to swell up when I eat it, though, so I have a fair amount of incentive to keep it to a minimum.

I haven't been on a scale in a while, but judging from my body, I'm gaining at a MUCH slower pace than I did with dd. I followed a brewer-ish SAD-ish diet last time and hasn't yet discovered my food allergies and put on 70+ lbs (I refused to get on a scale during or after the pregnancy, but we guess it was between 70 and 100 lbs that I gained). That's so not happening this time. I lost a bunch of weight this summer and am still in last winter's pants (though I'm in maternity everything else).

How often are people eating right now? During my first trimester, I was eating every 2-3 hours, but lately I haven't been needing to do that. I've been focusing more on the fats and am wondering if that's the difference--though, frankly, it's sort of freaking me out. I'm really not used to feeling semi-normal when pregnant, and feeling good makes me constantly worried that something is wrong. Isn't that crazy?

Congrats, Desertpenguin!!!!

As for frequency of meals, I don't feel hungry very often. But I eat when the urge strikes. I'm more of a snacker, I guess.

Welcome Desertpenguin!!

Lately I've been feeling like I absolutely have got to get everything ready for the hb. So....I decided today was THE DAY! I had high hopes that we'd get EVERYTHING we needed to get yet, but unfortunately there are still a few other things to get. We've got a sink adaptor that won't work for our kitchen faucet so I have to return that one and get something else. I've also decided to go with a slightly thicker plastic sheeting for the liner which means I have to return what we got and get something else.

I have to remind myself that I'm just 38 weeks at this point so it will probably be awhile, but still....can't rest until I do!

How exciting that you are so close pampered mom!! My midwife says we have to have all our hb supplies by 36 weeks so after New Years I am off to do my collecting as well. I am really excited about starting my prepping and nesting soon!

well, i must remember that we have some bad days so we can know what good days are. today was a good day!

to make a long story short, i called the USA and ordered The Garden of Eating (TF/grain-free recipe book) from the author and actually spoke with her about setting up a phone consultation to help me with my diet. yay!!!!! i'm so excited that i found someone who understands my dietary concerns and who can help me, all while i sit on the couch and eat a bowl of crispy almonds!

newcastlemama - thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement. i thought of you last night when my almost 2 year old son started saying our dinner blessing. he was pointing at the food and the people around the table saying, "bless it, bless them, bless it, chicken, bless them, papa"...i just go through the words sometimes and forget what it all means. thank you for the reminder.

and welcome to all preggo newbies!

mamas who are counting down the days to delivery, i'm wishing you all the best!

suzukiaustin-omg that is so wonderful! i'm so happy for you! and your son sounds so adorable!
