beer while nursing?

I keep hearing that having a beer while nursing can help with supply- something about the yeast and/or hops. Does it carry through to the baby (the booze, I mean?) Should I go for non-alcoholic beer instead? What about wine- is that OK to have occasionally?

It doesn't pass through in an amount enough to be of any worry.

I had some dark beer the other night. and it was awesome.

From what I've heard, as long as you don't have enough to start feeling buzzed then it's safe. Once you have enough that you are starting to feel inebriated, then the alcohol content of your breast milk is enough to affect your baby. I've been partaking of the occasional beer or glass of wine.

I have heard dark beer is good for nursing mothers... and I think it has to do with the grain products, or maybe the B vitamins?

Yep, its some of my moms advice that isn't totally out of date. Helps with the milk & makes you feel good too.

Your milk has the same alcohol content as your blood. So if you have a beer after you nurse and know you won't nurse for another hour or so you are perfectly safe. Some women "pump and dump" but that's really not necessary as long as you don't nurse right after you've enjoyed 3 cold ones
So: I had my well deserved beer here and there while I was pregnant and I have it now. I put my baby down for the night and have me a nice treat right out of the fridge. YUM!
Plus, it is right - hops will help increase supply.

I'll have a single drink while nursing...and stop after one, just to be cautious.

What if one beer or even half a glass of wine makes you feel funny?

personally, I won't drink while PG or nursing but we have alcoholism in family (father and sis, both recovered long time) so with genetics sucha s they are I refuse to risk "giving baby a taste for alcohol" but that's just my opinion and prob WAY over cautious.. either way I only have maybe 3-4 drinks a year when not pg or nursing so it's not ahuge deal to me.. very ironically, DH and I had wine on valentines day (a bit too!) and I was maybe 2 days PG but did not know it!! I was so mad!.. I had not had a drink in over a yr.. why THEN ???? ack.. anyway.. I think , technically it is OK but it is a big no for me...
