Non-Coercive Parenting? Need resources!!!

I need a bit of reading material to get me on the path to NCP! I've got Without Boundaries and With Consent by Jan Fortune-Wood on my library Interloan list......is there anything out there that is NOT internet based that will give me lots of anecdotal stuff? (I don't have internet in my home, so I can't just sit & read if I want to)

So what books helped you the most?

hi mehndi mama
i didn't realize there were print resources! i've gotten what little i've gleaned about non-coercive parenting from the TCS site, which you no doubt already know about (takingchildrenseriously.com)
i'm going to check out *your* titles! i have no other suggestions on ncp per-se, but i am reading a parenting book that so far i like very much -- playful parenting, by lawrence cohen.
i have come to what i have absorbed of the ncp philosophy through my growing realization that behaviors we label as undesirable all have underlying triggers that can and should be addressed for the child's benefit as well as ours.
and cohen, too, seems to view anti-social behaviors as symptoms to be addressed, through play.
so i offer it, if you're interested in branching out at all.
sorry i don't know of any more specifially ncp.
good luck with your search.
warmly,
susan

"The Secret of Parenting" by Anthony Wolf. Lots of great ideas there, practical ones, many examples of various situations.

"Kids are Worth It" by Barbara Coloroso. Gives good reasons for using NCP, but for me it was a little too "preaching to the choir", kwim? I agreed with everything she said, didn't need convincing. But very straightforward and a great read nevertheless.

"Kids, Parents, and Power Struggles"...um, I think this is by "Kurchinka" (sp?)? Really liked it. Goes in depth about various children's personality types, how to deal with them in a non-coercive way.

Those should be a good starting place for you!

I completely forgot about Kids, Parents, and Power Stuggles! I've been wanting to read that for about forever.....guess I better go to the library website right now & put it on my list......

So, is this like the student teaching the teacher now, Piglet? :LOL I'm liking it!

<giggle!> :LOL

ah, Master...your little Grasshopper has learnt much since you imparted your great wisdom to me!

For those of you wondering what this is about, Mehndi Mama just happens to be one of the *major* AP influences during my pregnancy, when she gracefully put up with me and a bunch of other first-time mamas on a very mainstream board, and gave me an education on CIO, among other things. I honestly credit her for leading me to AP.

all together now:

I have to say, you were a VERY well-researched first-timer! You at least has a reson for doing everything you did, not just because "that's the way everyone does it", KWIM?
