Social Smiling? Anyone else's baby not doing it yet?

Jacob is 6 1/2 weeks and has yet to "social smile" at us? I did some paranoid reading and hope it is way to soon to be worried yet about this milestone. Are we the only ones?

My last two started at five weeks, but my first was more towards 7ish if I remember. The last two were also born a week or more later and have much different personalities than the first so I wonder if that plays into it at all.

FWIW, when HJ did start smiling for us it was 'all of the sudden' and the day before I might have been wondering just as you are when it would happen. I think the "typical" range is 6-8 weeks, but I know some here have said their lo's have smiled as early as 3!

eidie is 10 weeks (6 weeks adjusted) and hasn't smiled really yet either.

my DD is 8 weeks old and has only just started smiling a few times yesterday.

Its not the big gummy smiles like DS gave us but its something.

I have to work hard for them as well.

I wasn't going to worry until 12 weeks.

Thanks for your replies. I have been really concerned. I know all babies develop differently but this just seems SO different from Adam and Hannah. He loves me to cuddle and hold him but just doesn't seem to want to focus on me or DH and prefers to stare off to the left or right at other things. And of course there is that lack of smile? I will keep praying all is okay.

Eidie's been smiling all day!!! Took us 10 weeks but finally the absolutely sweetest reward!!!

Laynie is almost 7 weeks and still no smiles. Hoping to see something soon.
