What fill is best for making door draft blockers?

What fill is the best for homemade door (or window) draft blocker?

I am going to sew long tubes & fill with ???? to block the draft under the doors. I am thinking buckwheat? or rice? beans? or sand? Has anyone made these and what is the best fill----I can order grains --beans etc. in bulk from co-op for good price-- but I am thinking it may get wet as snowy boots come in & out--so I don't want something that will wet & mold inside---and I'm not sure where to get sand this time of year...but maybe that is best?

Does anyone have any ideas or sucess stories??

I used kitty litter for mine. I was concerned about mice.

Great idea!! ---The thought never occured--but perfect--so cheap--and certainly not tasty!! (at least , I don't think so!)

my nana always used sand.

Where do you get sand this time of year?
(Probably WISE people make these before the ground is frozen & covered in snow--and when sand is still sold in garden shops...right?)

My aunt made these one year and used dried beans. This was like 20 years ago and they're still functional and not moldy or anything!!!

you can get sand at the hardware store. it is used for cement. NAK (again!)

Maine Balsam Fir company makes them and fills them with balsam needles. You can also buy the needles in bulk. That sounds like it would smell so good!!

where to get sand... try a sandblasting place like an auto body shop, they might just look at you weird if you ask if you can buy a bag of sand, but if you can't get any from them they should be able to tell you where the buy it from
