overlocker vs sewing machine?

Newby to cd making. I'm wondering if it is better to use an overlocker or regular sewing machine for diapers and covers. I have found them both well priced and need to buy one of them soon to get started. Any advice?

TIA

You'll need a sewing machine first. You can turn and top stitch diapers with that. While it's possible to insert elastic with an overlocker and finish the edges, you'll still need the sewing machine to attach soaker pads and stitch on aplix. And you can use your sewing machine for many other non diaper projects!

A serger/overlocker is a fun second machine though!

: I agree - go with a good basic machine and then a serger later. Have fun making dipes!

I agree . I'd only invest in a serger if you end up really taking to sewing and could use it for other things. A good sewing machine will last you decades.
