Also, you can't get salmiakki either in the US or the UK, and that's one of the few things I really miss about Finland.
My best friend mom was dutch and she knew a candy store here in LA that sold that. I must say, my mouth hurts just thinking of trying one of those. I hate them.

Coke does taste different in the UK and US. We were told that it's watered down, has less sugar. Because we Americans like LOTS of sugar. :

I know what you can't get. Welch's Grape Soda and Oreos. Ummm... yum!

I remember the Bisto stuff. I would totally use that, if I could get my hands on it.

Our commissary has a selection of British stuff. Dh is always picking random stuff out, mostly candy bars and stuff. LOL He was looking for the Terry's Chocolate Oranges the other day - I know I've seen these stateside, I just don't remember where.

I'm guessing it's something similar to Miracle Whip!

Not really, it's a different texture. More of a pouring sauce, less of an "ointmenty" feel is about the best I can explain it. Much less bland than Miracle Whip or mayonaise. It's one of those things you either like or hate. My sister was over visiting last year and she thought it was hilarious that I had a bottle - when we moved to Ireland as kids, we hated the stuff, and you couldn't get Helman's mayo over there at that time. I developed a taste for it, I guess, whereas she sort of sees is as being lower class

I rarely use it, but now and again get an urge for a lettuce tomato and scallion sandwich with salad cream.

On the same lines, any UK members remember Sandwich Spread? It was like salad cream with finely chopped vegetables...

They also buy fresh things at a local British shop (the British Pantry, it's called) like sausages, cheeses and puddings at Christmastime, and there are some mail order companies as well. They get things like Branston pickle and HP sauce at the shop as well.

Me personally, I really miss (from the UK) Kettle Chips Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar flavor. Also Fox's Crunch Creams and PG Tips tea although sometimes I can find these things at Cost Plus/World Market. I also REALLY REALLY MISS jars of curry sauce, Korma in particular, there are lots of good curry sauces in jars here but nothing compares to the jarred Korma froM England. I usually have my friend send it to me or bring some back when she comes for a visit

I belong to another forum with US expats living in the UK, and some have repatted to the US (like me) and we are having this same discussin at the moment... here are some of the things they bring back to the US from the UK:

crumpets, Remegel, Yorkie Bars, Warburtons Super Toastie bread, Thornton's toffee, Orange kit kats, any and all kinds of chocolate

Christmas crackers, interesting flavors of crisps, Prawn cocktail crisps, Robertson's mincemeat, Carex Liquid soap, mini-mince pies, flavored crisps, magazines--usually BBC History, McVities Milk chocolate digestives
,Cadbury fingers, Lemon fanta, Yorkie bars, Flake bars, Charlie and Lola magazine ,Cadbury Creme egg bars, And of course Tiptree jam for everyone!

Chocolate Hob Nobs, Smarties and Fox's Biscuit Assortment, Tinned mushy peas, Teacakes, Hendersons Relish, Marmite, Irish Cream Chocolates, Twiglets, Spotted Dick

OH, NO YOU DIDN'T!!!!
Sweet lord, orange Kit Kat, Lemon Fanta. Please someone help me...

I had salad cream once. It tasted like mayo mixed with mustard and vinegar and then watered down a bit. My American opinion.

We have Brits in our town, so we can get a lot of things... we also get BBC America, so we can watch British tv.

Prawn crackers. OMG! In fact, just basically about any British chinese food. It's so frigging good. And different.

I'm also not sure where you can get a 'kebab' around here - kebab being lamb in a pita style pocket bread.

Also, you can get Kit Kats here, obviously, but theirs is better.

I also love their architecture and landscape and dirty dingy pubs where you drink with the locals, and...sigh. I miss the UK. I must visit again someday. Hopefully!

Edit: how could I forget?!?! HEINZ.BAKED.BEANS. on toast. Oh.my.god.

So I'm not crazy! My friend said she couldn't taste the difference. UK Coke definately tastes more bubbly than US Coke. But German Coke tasted sweeter than US Coke. Once, I bought a soda (in the UK) at a kiosk and it tasted so sweet, so I checked the can and found it was written entirely in German.

btw, I find Terry's chocolate oranges (and lime flavored, and raspberry flavored, etc..) at Kroger's/Smith's.

Um, Bakewell tarts and Battenberg cake (so yum, photo here: http://bronmarshall.com/?p=99) are my must purchase items in the UK.
Branston pickle can be found in the import section of some grocers here in the US...but it's never quite the same as that purchased in the UK.

I haven't been long enough in the UK away from the US to miss much. I did miss some US foods while living in Taiwan though...back in 1989...and then it was harder to find imported foods. I'll bet they have just about everything now...

My local Fred Meyer grocery store in WA state carries a bunch of the products listed. They also have a bunch of Italian and Asian imported stuff too. I have to admit I haven't really tried any of the UK imports as I had no clue what most of them were, like salad cream.

in meijers international isle (which is my heaven) they sell salad cream and gold and blacks maya chocolate

i love my english area of that isle. they dont carry much from the down under type products, but i will get by with the uk versions. My mum loves pg tips, so since shes visiting it was good to be able to buy it here for her instead of her bringing her own in the luggage.

You can get Kindersurprises in Europe but not in the US. They are chocolate eggs with toys inside and apparently US kids are too stupid not to choke on the toys while eating the chocolate.

Salad cream isn't like a salad dressing, its a thickish, cream coloured sauce and I reeally don't know how to explain the flavour except for saying its scrumpcious.

It goes with practically anything, ham sandwhiches, chicken, all sorts.
i love it on anything in placed of ketchup/tomato sauce. I love dipping my chips/fries in it. I need to buy some more, my fil aquired the taste for it and ate it all :

very true! in new zealand its not very sweet, it has a bite to it, the korean virson i tasted it was very light and crisp, the us version is :Puke: so sickly sweet, i stopped drinking coke and all soda once i moved here.

What about treacle? Ds wanted to try some because it is mentioned in the Harry Potter books. So when we saw a can for sale in the European section of Fred Meyer's, we purchased it. I didn't like it, nor did ds. A wierd cake like thing with a sort of sugar sauce that you were supposed to cook by boiling in the can. Maybe I did it wrong...

Salad Cream sounds tasty! I will keep my eyes peeled for that.
