Salad Cream sounds tasty! I will keep my eyes peeled for that.

I've heard that it's hard to get Root Beer in the UK and it's not a thing that most people would drink.

It's since been removed, but there was a funny youtube challenge for people to eat things they've never tried. One brit's list was root beer, tomato juice, and I forget the third. He barely choked down the root beer which was in a weird glass bottle, and said it tastes like cough syrup and he'd had to go to several stores just to find it. Then he cheated by making the tomato juice into a bloody mary.

When I lived in England, I discovered prawn crackers (crisps) at Tesco. Omg, I loved those. Then, I moved back to the states, had a baby and became horribly allergic to shellfish. Go figure.

I miss Yorkshire pudding (minus the meat). Yep, I used to eat those bread cups with gravy. LOL.

I miss milk chocolate aero (my local stop & shop has the mint but not regular milk choc).

I used to eat something occasionally that was totally fattening but oh so good. I can't remember the name of it though! It usually came in a round foil tin and was made of oatmeal and something like caro/golden syrup or something. My ex husband used to bring it home ALL the time. That's how I gained so much weight. If it was in the house, I'd eat it. LOL. Man, I gained a lot of weight in England.

Edited to add: I just emailed my ex husband to get the name of that stuff. LOL. It bugs me when I can't remember the name of something.

I must be lucky. My local Kroger has a British section so I can get Birds custard, Aero's and Bisto gravey granuals etc. I had to teach myself how to cook a decent roast beef so I have a good excuse to cook yorkshire puuddings. I love them!!!! Mint sauce is a fav of mine as well. My dh can't stand it. I do miss decent sausages though. Thats the one thig I really pine for.

Coke in the US is made with corn syrup, due to high tariffs on sugar which make corn syrup cheaper. Coke in the UK, Europe, Mexico and probably just about anywhere else is made with proper sugar, which is why it tastes so much better the corn syrup gives it more of a sicky-sweet taste, in my opinion! There is actually a huge market for Coke that is imported from Mexico around here - they even have it at Costco!

Is it terrible that the first page of this thread made me run out to World Market for snacks?

Mmmmm... European junk food!!!

Flapjack! That's the stuff I was talking about that England has but I haven't found it in the states. My ex just emailed me a recipe. I haven't looked at it yet though. I don't know how I'd be able to make it into a healthy snack. LOL

Here in canada coke is made with real sugar as well so those of you that need a sugar fix can get it here as well.

Also I've had both Salad cream and Canadian Miracle whip(there is a big difference in the american stuff) and they taste almost identical except the salad cream has a hint of mustard, but in most cases in meat "salads" that we use it in we put mustard as well.
I can't stand mayonaise at all - it revolts my taste buds. I grew up on miricle whip and it is about the only prossesed junk crappy type food that is served on a regualar basis here. There is nothing better the cold turkey and Miricle whip or have in on a tomato sandwhich. To be honest my kids love it - and it works perfectly to get meat into them (nice freash organic free range meats) slathered in mircle whip(or salad cream) hows that for a good meets bad story. LOL

Aero bars
Milka chocolate
Passion Fruit Fanta (found in Kenya - OMG...yum!)
Ginger beer

Okay here's one - the pepperoni on Pizza Hut pizza takes different in England than the U.S. It's spicier and much better!

Agreeing with you. I was thinking I can get almost everything listed here and I'm just outside of Orlando. The Publix supermarkets in my area have whole aisles of British foods.

The H. J. Heinz Company remains the primary producer of salad cream, although it is also produced by other companies in the United Kingdom. In the United States, where salad cream is generally unavailable (and unknown), the T. Marzetti Company produces a similar product, called T. Marzetti Original Recipe Slaw Dressing. Salad cream generally comes in a clear glass bottle, or, more recently, a clear plastic squeeze bottle.

You can get Green & Black's Chocolate loads of places in the US; even the evil WalMart carries some of them.

Hellman's mayonaise is everywhere on the Eastern half of the US; on the Western half it's called Best Foods, but it's exactly the same.

I have no idea what salad cream is, but I'm guessing it's like Miracle Whip? If it's anything like that, I am so glad that they don't sell it here. YUCK.

And, no you will not find ketchup chips in the US. One time that my sis and I were in Canada waiting for a ferry, we purchased some ketchup chips from a vending machine, thinking surely that was just their way of saying BBQ flavored chips. We were wrong. I like ketchup, and I LOVE potatoes, but for some reason ketchup chips are very odd to me.

To think of all the little American children deprived of KinderSuprise
They sell them at our local German store. I have read over and over that you can't buy them in the US, but apparently no one told the owners of that store! DH gets them for the kids every few months when he goes in there!

I used to love the "American Hot" pizza at Pizza Express in London - it had pepperoni and pickled jalapenos, and you are right, the pepperoni was WAY better than the US.
