inflamed milk ducts

So we're fighting yeast just like with my other two babies when they were nbs. Anyway I also had a plugged duct that didn't go away. In fact it has spread? gotten bigger? Went to the doctor and she said I have inflamed ducts and put me on antibiotics. Oh joy. The yeast is happy! I'm about halfway through the presc. and no change in the ducts that I can tell. She said if the antibiotics didn't clear it up then I 'd have to have them surgically removed. ACK! Anybody know anything about this?

I'm on everything for the yeast btw and its not budging. Sigh.

Currently on
200 mg diflucan for 14 days (with the 400 mg dose the first day)
gentian violet on the nips every night
vinegar in the laundry
vitamin c
acidopholis
vitamin e
garlic pills

Saw someone mention b vitamins so am going to take the b complex I have in the cabinet.

The plugged/inflamed ducts are on the outside of my left breast and it's tender but no red streaks or spots. Just sore. But then again both breasts are sore and I think it's from the yeast. The ducts never seem to go down in size after nursing but after massaging they seem to sink down inside my breast but then come back up when I start filling with milk again.

Anyway any input would be great. And yes I'm reading the yeast thread to see if there's any new info I didn't already know.

I am so sorry you are going through this!

All I can think of is lethicin for prevention in the future.

Did your Dr test to see if there is actually an infection? Sometimes women have masitits and the mastitis may or may not be infective. But it doesn't sound like the Dr says you have mastitis. It sounds like you may need to seek out a Dr that is more knowledgable about breastfeeding issues. Especially since "inflamed ducts" is not an actual medical condition/term.

Try putting a warm compress on your breast before nursing and nurse often to keep milk flowing through the breast. Nurse on the problem side first, then the other side, then the problem side again. If it does not get better soon then you will need to see the dr again.

If there is no infection, then antibiotics will not help. Antiobiotics will help mastitis if it is also infected. But they are not needed for plugged ducts, clogs, or milk blebs. Do have it checked out if it does not improve after a couple more days, get another opinion if you have to as it doesn't sound as though antibiotics would clear up this sort of thing.
