hi!

i'm having my 2nd UC, 5th baby. We JUST told family we are pregnant They treated us so awful last time, i wasnt about to deal with it again. So i just sent out our xmas cards, and said "by the way..."

the first thing out of everyones mouth, "are you doing that homebirth thing again?" yes i am.

i'm getting exctied, getting baby things together. Birth supplies should be here any day.

has anyone else NOT had an ultrasound? People treat me like i'm insane because i havent. I even had one person say "how do you know you are really pregnant then?" :

I've never had an ultrasound. Its weird how its so commonplace now. My mom was APPALLED when I told her about the amount of ultrasounds some people I know have had. She's like, "I thought ultrasounds were for when there are PROBLEMS". Well, not anymore mom. Now they're for entertainment. :

(((hugs))) Sorry it wouldn't work out for you.

My landlord lives right above us :X My pregnancy hasn't come up at all, and when the time comes they can't and won't stop me. Though this has been weighing heavy on my mind. :/ ah oh well! It's going to be less messy than if we "accidently" had a baby here

planning a homebirth this time. actually we planned one last time but changed to the midwife's birth center the last week per her request. That was nice but I'd like to do it at home this time.

For those of you who planned a homebirth last time but transferred, what was the reason for the transfer?

I feel like a first timer too, so many interventions last time. I never felt good with my OB. I should have run screaming when I was looked at like I was eating a terd for saying I don't want pitocin. Since I'm having a HBAC you can see where that lead! I never felt like I got to have a real labor Much less a real birth (no offense to anyone reading, surgical birth when unnecessary doesn't sit well with me)

So someone tell me about this encapsulating placenta business. :

First time mama, first time homebirth here. I'm really excited about it. For about two days right at the start of this pregnancy I was leaning towards a birth center, but as soon as I started really reading up on homebirth I had my heart set on it. My midwife is great. She's just so laid-back and competent and sensible and kind. I feel a lot of trust in her.
It's been neat watching my boyfriend make the transition from being worried about homebirth to being behind it one hundred percent. At some point he really started to understand the appeal of birthing at home.
My sister just had a great homebirth in October, and I think her midwife may actually wind up being my backup midwife, since my midwife's partner will be out of town.
I have my first home visit tomorrow. Fortunately the house is all nice and clean.

Super swamped homebirther here.

This is our third baby, first homebirth. I'm very excited to not have to get into a car with contractions. :

I've been in college full time right up till next monday- so I'm hoping baby holds off until then. Or a little longer, because I want my house CLEAN. Is that weird? My midwife says she could care less and that she's delivered in many interesting environments. But I feel like I absolutely won't be comfortable if they are here and my house is a mess.

We're homebirthing and since I turned 37 weeks on Tuesday, all systems are "go" to have the baby. I did have an ultrasound on Tuesday because I was measuring behind by several cms. My midwife was not overly concerned (the baby is super low) but I wanted to be sure for my own peace of mind, and sure enough all is totally fine and baby was estimated at 6.5 lbs.

I'm excited, nervous, bewildered, etc. I feel like I need a little more time, but this baby is SO low and the BH ctx are in full-time gear so who knows. My husband's company party is the 14th and I really want to hang on until after that because I haven't worn "cocktail attire" in forever I'm looking forward to going!

I watched "Gentle Birth Choices" today and seeing those moms in labor brought back a lot of memories... Reminded me of the really hard work ahead and made me a little jumpy. I'm glad you started this thread because I definitely need the reassurance that I can do it. Especially since my last was an epidural birth in which I truly believed I was dying of pain. Each day I try to visualize a quick, safe and managable labor.

I had an ultrasound because I didn't believe it. I really didn't. Had a neg hpt and all of the symptoms were the old ones I'd had when my hormones were bizarro. I was agog to see baby waving at me.

This is totally how I feel. Right now my house is clean but could be cleaner, I'm beat but its really bugging me if I was to go into labor tonight.

This is our 3rd baby but our 1st homebirth. I started care with a CNM but she was leaving to a different hospital and I didn't want to drive an hour to get there. Then I switched to an OB and got terrible care so I told dh that we are having a homebirth. At first he was dead set against it. But he's come around and I think he's really excited for it, he just won't say that. I'm estastic about it and am like a kid in a candy store. I can't wait!!!

I've been watching HB videos on YouTube with DS to see how he does with it, maybe he can actually be around for some or part of birthing day without my having to worry about him. Today I realized that I haven't really seen much of birth myself. It's a bit scary, a bit daunting, a bit exciting. There are different positions to try, and everyone experiences it differently. Just like sex! Ha! Same way you get em in is the same way to get em out.

This will be my 4th birth & not only will it be my 1st one at home but my 1st UC as well!

2nd baby, 1st homebirth. I'm also running around trying to keep everything clean so I'm okay going into labor...don't want to give birth in a messy house!
It's my first time all around, and Kaleb and I are both excited to do it at home. He's been really supportive of the idea all along, and brags to everybody about how much I've researched pregnancy and birth and how aware of my body I am. What a guy :
My midwife is actually a good friend of mine who lives nearby. I've been feeling really good lately, better than I should be feeling, until today.

Have been worried today because my GBS test came back negative for GBS, but positive for other creepy crawlies... so on MW's instructions I've been downing tons of vitamin c, douched with hibiclens, stuck a clove of garlic in my hoo-ha, and am feeling pretty icky as I go to bed... not because I feel sick, but because the test said I am infected.: MW thinks I have an asymptomatic UTI as well as the vaginal germies.

Something about sticking small stinky food items into my vagina is very disturbing to me.

Actually, I've been having strong second thoughts about this whole "pushing a human out my vagina" thing today. I must just be tired - because this little guy is definitely coming out at some point, and that's the clearest exit. When do I get my third wind? I could be waiting another whole month! :sigh:

Wake up, is it BV? I had that early in pg. Asymptomatic but kinda makes you feel nasty.

3rd pg, 2nd homebirth.

Can any of you tell me what I need to know in the event of a transfer? I've worried about this for some reason this time.

I don't remember that much mess from either birth, but I think if I were convinced birth is as messy as some ppl apparently think it is, I wouldn't want to give birth where 100 others have, you know?

When I transferred I was 36 weeks pregnant, broken waters, completely UP, planning a UC. They weren't very nice to me, needless to say. If you have your midwife with you, its probably not so bad.

3rd baby, 2nd HB. We have the same MW as last time but we're planning for her to be much more hands off this time. DH is going to catch and she is really only there just in case... mostly because I had a PPH last time. Otherwise I think we would have planned a UC. But now that I am so overdue I am really glad I've got her to talk to and reassure me.

The birth supplies have all been ready since about 38 weeks, now they are just sitting on the changing table in our room and mocking me. Sorry, I'm in a bad mood this morning, I feel like baby is never going to come.

Is anyone getting baby a HB t-shirt or anything? I was going to buy one but then I decided to make one and then I, umm, never got around to it...

Exactly! The latex gloves are the WORST- they creep me out. You have people in the hospital coughing, sneezing, etc (especially this time of year) and those latex gloves are just sitting out on the counter in an open box...and then the doctor wants to use one of those gloves to do an internal exam?!?!? My mom and I always wind up grabbing the first few pairs of gloves in the box and tossing them so that we don't get "as germy" gloves coming near us. :
