today was the first time id been back to the wic office since i had the baby- the first thing i noticed (and i dont know why i never noticed it before) was a sign in the waiting room that said feel free to breastfeed here, then in smaller letters said if you want somewhere more private, just ask. it also saod babies are born to breastfeed. then i went back to the nutritionest, told her i was nursing, she saids that great. asked if i was exclusivly nursing, and when i said yes, she that that was perfect when i went up front to get my vouchers and stuff the receptionest mentioned that she had nursed her daughter til she was 2! that was cool because ive never personally known someone to nurse even to a year- the longest ive met is a mom at the daycare i used to work at, she went to 10 months

anyway, we hear so much negative stuff about wic, i just thought id share something positive

I've had good success with the Ft. Gordon WIC office as well. The nutritionist was very supportive of my nursing through this pregnancy, and was happy to hear that I'd be tandem nursing when my baby is born in February. I have also been pleasantly surprised by the positive reactions and support I've received from the Army resident MDs and the OB nurses at DDEAMC. All of them seem to be fairly well-versed in BF overall, and yet willing to learn more from experienced moms.

Glad to hear that all is well with your baby.

I am at Fort Gordon too. I was also pleased that when I was nursing my 8 month old in the waiting area at Family Practice, someone mentioned that there was a lactation room available, but if I was comfortable in the waiting room that was fine too. I have used the lac room to pump though. And I nurse her all the time at the Burger King across from the BX, no probs ever.

the people at my WIC office were pleasantly surprised when I was still exclusively nursing (ie no formula) at 3. 6, and 9 months. Then at 12+ months they were happy I was nursing but had to put down that I wasn't in the computer so I could get milk and stuff *for him* even though he wasn't the one drinking it.
