My Sister Is Being Induced Right Now

Help me understand!! My sister lives out of state so I'm not with her. She went in for a routine appt. today,EDC is 12/11. An ultrasound indicated that the baby is weighing less then last week and her amniotic fluid level has decreased. She was sent to hospital for pit induction. What causes a decrease level of fluid and a baby to be smaller then a previous gestimate via US??

Thanks Mommas! baby doing well on monitor and everything but I'm worried!!!

I believe that is called intra uterine growth restriction, and it can be caused by a lot of different things. I'm not sure if it's a different thing or a contributing factor but if the placenta stops functioning properly baby can have a hard time. I will think good wishes for your sister and her baby! I hope everything turns out ok.

Could be IUGR. Could be that mom needs to drink more fluids and that would help the fluid level. Could be degredation of the placenta-- could be a different subjective "guess" at weight.

Good that the baby is doing well.

Let us know what happened!

Baby was born after 4 hours of induction and 9 minutes of pushing, so quickly! Good apgars, Mom and babe doing well! No probs. Placenta did show signs of degredation, cord was also short. The baby weighed just shy of 6 pounds. They are home and breastfeeding is going well. Can't wait to go visit at the end of the month!

Sounds like it was probably good to get the baby out, in this case. I'm glad everything went well for her!!
