Non vaxers support thread... - Page 2

I have been lurking on the vaccine threads for awhile now but this is my first time replying here. I have decided not to vax my daughter who is 6 weeks today. DH and I have done copious amounts of research on the matter and have decided 100 % that vaccination is not for our family. I hope to find and give much support here on this thread

I've tried to reply to this thread a couple times and MDC logged me off!

So the gist of it is that I'll be happy to pop in now and again and chat with those who are needing hugs, looking for support, or otherwise struggling in the deprogramming process. The caveat being that I stopped coming here (all of MDC) because it became more like talking to a pediatrician than anything, and I don't have the energy to do that all the time.

If we're now relegated to one thread, I'll try to remember to poke my head in and chat!

I'd love to join too. My DD is 3 and has never had a vaccination.

What shall we talk about first?

My current concern is chicken pox. It think it's because dd will be 5 next summer and I was about 5-6 when I caught it naturally. I'm worried we might not have such luck/ a chance with the CP vax being giving for the dc to catch it naturally. I have fingers crossed for a pox party, but nothing local seems to have surfaced.
It's interesting how our personal experiences affect us. I didn't get chicken pox until I was 14 or so and so it hasn't even come up on my radar yet for the kids (they're 4yo and 19mos).

Thanks sooooooooooo much for starting the thread. It was getting scary out there! I will hide here! Er...make that confidently assert myself here, lest anyone think I fear the pox.

You can post in the Find your Tribe forum....see if anyone in your area has them.....
I'm currently looking too. I wish we could mail the virus...but I think we talked about this a while back and it wouldnt live that long on paper?

Speaking of pox parties... it freaks me out a bit to expose my kids to it on purpose...kwim? It's better than the cp vax though...

I understand your feelings well. I have come to the point that I am okay with intentional exposure, but I am just not comfortable with the methods that some people are using. Some things are just down right gross and not things I would subject my kids to ever.

Another thing that seems to of concern is repeated exposure and the severity of the illness in the child. I know a couple people and have read from others that they felt that their child came down with a more severe case due to repeated and frequent exposure to the pox until they became ill. I don't know if there's real truth to it or not, or if it's just coincidence, but I can think of about 5 instances where the mama feels that is strongly what happened. One of those, a friend IRL actually, was told by her doc that he felt that was true too. Any thoughts on that?

I hear what you are saying. The irony in all of this is that as a kid, we didnt even worry about when we got CP. It was a given that in the spring, it would be "going around".
I went to a Catholic elementary school and when I was in 5th grade, the entire school was hit with it. For a month or so, there were only a few kids in each grade because everyone was home sick.

This is sooo gross and I cant believe I'm sharing this but I remember going up to this boy in our class (I was one of the last to get it) and asking him to cough on me because I sooooooo wanted to get the CP and get to stay home for two weeks
He actually ran away from me when I asked him that... But, I wound up with the pox a few days later.....two weeks at home, watching tv and getting lots of sympathy.....(not that it wasnt uncomfortable and icky) but overall, it wasnt bad.... (this was in the mid 80's)

I am not comfortable with purposeful exposere, but if they get it they get it.

I struggle with this too. I wouldnt want my kids to get the vax when they are teens....but I dont like the idea of purposely exposing them....(I think it might be part guilt on my end if they were to get really sick, I would feel it was my fault).

The fact that it's harder and harder to come by might not be a bad thing because we dont go out looking for measles or mumps either.....and what percentage of non vax'd kids get those? Also, doesnt the cp vax shed? Maybe our kids are getting the advantage of being exposed to the shedding kids without actually coming down with symptoms?

I most certainly am not either! I never had CP & I just don't buy into the whole "they MUST get it" hype. If they do they do, if not...whatever.

Hola chickadoodles! Another non-vaxxer here glad to see this thread! SO TIRED of hearing "but what about pertussis" every time a thread starts regarding vaxes....*sigh*..

I say SCREW PERTUSSIS!

re: chickenpox..my DS#1 is 9 and hasn't had "the pox" yet..figure we'll wait it out, actually not worried about it at all at this point...I'm sure he'll get it eventually

*GASP*

You are "sooo lucky"!! Don't you know you should all be dead? Oh oh, but you know what? I forgot! "Where's the proof that it was pertussis? Did you see a medical professional? No? Then it could have just been a bad cough. You don't know for sure it was pertussis. Not like when we had it and my Dr. said it was a good thing we got vaccinations because it would have been MUCH WORSE if we hadn't!" (*sarcastic quote*)

I'm just hoping when DS#1 finally does get CP, his scratching won't turn into "impetigo and get infected/gangrenous and cause his arm to rot"!!
