Also don't take this to the other extreme. I didn't pump at all because I didn't want to tell my body to make more milk and I ended up with mastitis, then antibiotics because it was so bad and kept coming back, and thrush for 14 months. : It's a balance!

Condoms and Goldenseal!

--Fill the condoms w/ water and freeze for nice ice pack
--Goldenseal really helps to dry out baby's cord nicely

These are great... so many things I'd have forgotten otherwise!!

this link has some great PP ideas (in addition to the HB supplies): http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=602248

i bought condoms today to try the alcohol slushies! i figured everyone at the store seeing my belly and 1.5yo thought, "wow! that chic seriously doesn't want more kids!"

anyone ever heated up a rice pack w/o a microwave? dryer? oven?

Get a boppy.

And for you first timers-your arms are gonna be a little sore while you learn to nurse. Those muscles holding your baby arent used to being used 20 times a day! LOL. I was totally not prepared for that.

YES. In fact, if you have generous parents/in laws/family members who will buy you presents, get TWO. We have a 'bedroom' boppy and a 'living room' boppy so there is always one on the floor of the house I want to nurse on. I this arrangement so much!

Other things you want two of include Peri Bottles. 1 for each bathroom + 1. Seriously, I do not kid.

We put our oven on 200 and it takes about 10-15 minutes to get them toasty.

Ooh, nice tip. I have a Boppy & a My Brest Friend (I can't get over that name, it amuses me greatly) and I am so gonna keep one in the bedroom and one in the living room.

This thread rules.

Homeopathic arnica is great for the swelling those first few days.

Homeopathic hypericum is like a miracle for the raw/sore/tender feeling that persists for a while. I take it until sex doesn't hurt and trust me, when I run out, I can tell a difference even just wiping myself!

If you've had more than one child, be prepared for the afterpains. Especially when nursing. You may have to breathe through them just like ctx. Even a natural birthing mama may find herself reaching for ibuprofen or wishing for something stronger!

Don't pump too much when you are engorged or you'll just keep encouraging those boobs to make too much and prolong your misery.

Your newborn really can latch onto a boob that is bigger than his or her head. They do not even seem intimidated by it!

No matter how much smaller and slimmer you feel than when you were pregnant, or how much you think you gained weight only in your belly, your butt and thighs will not fit into your old jeans for a long while. Don't even try. Stick with the yoga pants and no one gets hurt!
OK- note taken on the hypericum. What is it, I have arnica already and I've been taking it but honestly I don't know what it's doing. I have no bruising, maybe that's it. I have no swelling, maybe that's it? What's the other thing.

And am I the only one who didn't have to push out a placenta. I mean, I could feel the contraction and I knew it was coming but I was sitting up and I just stuck a bowl under there and it mostly just plopped out, there wasn't any work involved. It was actually nice and soothing after passing a child through there, it was like a wipe-down.

I didn't even have a noticeable contraction - my placenta just seemed to fall out about 3 minutes after the birth when i was still sitting on the bathroom floor.
Yeah, mine just kinda "fell out" too - for all 3 births.

I second the sposie diaper with ice idea - it really helped.

nope, same here. DH asked me if it hurt or if I even felt it...I told him the closest feeling I could compare it to was when, while getting a tattoo, the artist wipes the area down with soapy water- very soothing in an odd sort of way.

I'm getting SPANX for my PP abdomen. Not to look slim, I could care less about my huge swollen abdomen - but to keep my organs from falling out.
I remember walking around hunched over like a little old lady, because I genuinely felt like my organs were spilling out. .
I had this same problem with DD. Which spanx are you going to get? I still have my "corset" the hospital gave me last time. (I complained so much, they gave it to me.)

Who said goldenseal for baby's cord, OMG that was amazing. With my first 5 kids, the cord fell off around 10-14 days. with THIS baby, I used goldenseal (I just broke open a capsule and sprinkled it on) and it fell off before four full days had passed. WOW_ amazing, and it seems to be healed just fine.

What do I do with the goldenseal now? It only took 2 capsules to do the job, now I have an entire bottle of goldenseal. What else does it do? Should we just be using it all the time on open wounds? I guess I should just look it up.

I believe the "Hide & Sleek Hi-Rise Body Smoother" - I feel like quite silly writing that out. I'm getting a liberal size - don't want to rearrange my organs - just want them to feel mildly supported.
I didn't get a corset : - just had to tough it out last time.

notes for next time

-dang... afterpains HURT!
-Witch Hazel feels sooooo good but doesn't help with the "smell o' childbirth". ewwwwwww!
-I looooooove who ever suggested peeing through empty toiletpaper rolls.
-My breasts can grow at massive rates at any noise that might possibly be a baby (i.e. the tv/dog/6 year old/radio/brakes squealing)
