well, poor Dean, seems he has seborrheic dermatitis (sp?) and not baby acne.. it's like cradle cap but he has it on his face, ears, neck adn chest.. he really has it badly, poor thing,, DH's whole family suffers with it, Evan had it mild but this one is a wreck.. I was NOT washing B/C I thought it was acne and that makes the seb worse so now we are washing/ wiping and using calendula cream a couple times a day.. it is some better but he still looks like he got dragged behind a truck face dwn... sigh... oh well..unfortunately, it can last a long time and I suspect he will have a lifetime struggle as most of Dh's family does... wonder what my homeopath will do?? hmm will have to ask her..

Poor Dean. Does he seem uncomfortable like it's bothering him?

DS has eczema and it was really severe when he was little. Helps explain why he was so fussy.

luckily, sed derm is totally pain/itchless ,, hideous, yes, but not unomfortable and luckily does not seem to go along with increase risk of allergies/ asthma/ add/ ear infec etc as some of the other skin stuff can... so i guess it could be worse!!

I'm glad you know now though! Is the washing/cream working a bit yet?

Laura, can I ask how you can tell the difference between the two? Sam has what I think is baby acne, but it's been hanging around for a while and now I am wondering if maybe it isn't something else. . .

Hugs, that sucks! My dh has mild SD and it flares up mostly in winter. Ds1 had baad eczema til he was one and I really know how hard it is to find skincare that works. Lots of trial and error.
Stay positive - he might outgrow it!

dh's whole one side has it so i know whot it looks like... the sd rash is finer and more everywhere and sorta salmon colored and feels really rough.. also gets yellow greasy flakes.. esp around nose, ears, eyebrows but can be anywhere.. the yellw scales on his ear lobes and eyebrows gave it away for me as did the chest involvement.. which is where dh gets it badly

the agressive washing and calendula has helped.. it's still ugly tho !!

Ah ha! I'm glad you posted this thread. I think this may be what Jamie has. I've never seen infant acne so bad -- he looks like he has the measles (ok, I have no idea what measles look like, but he's pretty darn spotty). He has it all over his face, scalp, ears, back and chest. I was noticing this morning that it almost seems like he has cradle cap on his ears. They're all flaky. His eyebrows are starting to get flaky, too.

I put some calendula cream on his little ears this morning, so we'll see if that helps. What do you wash with? I've been trying to leave it alone, thinking it's acne, but it's just getting worse.
