I horrified somone and it was fun!

Since Lachlan was born, DH and I have been open and vocal about having a homebirth and I love people's reactions.

Sunday we were at a local photo shop for Santa photos and this lady asked me if the nurses were going gaga over Lach's extremely blonde and plentiful hair... I told her I had a homebirth.

Her daughter, who looked to be my age, just couldn't hide the horror. Her neck jutted her face forward and her eyes went wide. I couldn't tell if she'd never heard of it before, couldn't believe I'd done it, or what. I had a hard time not laughing out loud.

I have thought about her and laughed every day since Sunday. Ahhh, gotta get my kicks somehwere!!

hahahahaa gotta love it!

I try to remember "that face" so that I can use it when people say they have a hospital birth.

Yeah, the best is when someone says (all wide-eyed), "ooooH. So you had him at home? He was 10 lbs (9 lbs)? You are so brave!" I just say,"Oh, well, I think you're the brave one having your baby in the hospital" They look at me like I just sprouted Medusa's hair.

Thats like last night at the ER, the Doc asked why we had gone up to the big hospital up north instead of having our DS at the one we were at. Instead of saying; "because your hospital sucks dude" I just said because we were having a VBAC. He looked at me really funny and said 'are people still doing those, they used to be all the rage." WTH... Yes I admit it i'm trendy just really late. Then he saw the cloth diapers and couldn't understand what they were or had no idea what the nursing pillow was. It was really interesting, like he only usually handles bachelor emergencies or something. Oh and watching him try and say breast without blushing really badly was super fun.

For some reason i seem to attract the weirdos like a moth with seasonal depression to a bug zapper. Remember i'm the one who had the crazy lady tell me when i was pregnant if i keep refering to my unborn child as as a girl and it turns out to be a boy i'm going to make him gay. I don't know why this happens to me but it appears i wear lunatic pheromones or something.

I get that look when I tell people my DC's were born at the hospital without an epidural. Can you imagine what would happen if I said homebirth?! I think thier pants would fall off and their bowels would fail.

lol that is fun. i'll have to say that too. although remember, that for many of us mamas the hospital is a very good place to have our babies...like w/ my birthing sheamas...he had thick meconium in the AF and i wouldn't have had it any other way. oh you want to hear something? my MW just told me today that many of the on call OB's at our local hospital do NOT do VBACS. omg did we have angels over us that night or WHAT!? i got one of the best dr's. she was even there as i pushed pushed pushed. she must have believed in me big time. it was an amazing birth. i think its important to remember that for many births, a hospital is optimum place to do them in cases like mine and sheamas', for one. i think before we go poo-poo'ing hospital birthing, we should look further into what the mom's story was. sometimes they are very justified going to the hosp. my MW was w/ me the WHOLE time. she is friggin' AWESOME. 11 hours by my side.

I get the "you're brave" thing too. Usually about homeschooling. With 6 girls, I usually say "Oh no, I've seen the girls in public high schools. I can't have 6 of them running around"

And with birth, I say "Oh no way, you're brave. I can't imagine having perfect strangers poking me and checking me and seeing me naked and laboring in a crowded place- and with all those germs and drugged up crazies around. You're the brave one. Besides, the C-section rate in my house is the lowest in the state."
