Can I get a "Whoop Whoop" Hey ya'll .......

I had it (even though I was fully vax'd) It wasnt scary...but definitely not fun......
I have a sneaking suspicion that dd8 had it when she was a baby....they said it was probably croup but there was no culture or anything to prove pertussis....so who knows.....

I dont think it's any more scary than pneumonia...and all my kids had that and made it through just fine

I must admit, that's the one that scares me the most and the only vax I decided to get at 2 mo. However, my pedi doesn't give the shot I'd prefer (Deptacel) and I have no idea where to go...would rather not vax than give the Infanrix with more aluminum and cow serum. You educate yourself, but it still does no good.

As a measles, mumps and rubella survivor, I think (I think because I didn't get it confirmed) that DD #2, DS and I had pertussis a couple of years ago, it was a BIG FAT NOTHING, so we coughed for a couple of months......end of story

: And I had Mumps MULTIPLE times as a kid...never even missed school.

We are nearly certain that dd had it just when she turned 2. It seemed to have the classic symptoms and was also at the time of a bunch of local outbreaks.

My three cousins had pertussis all at the same time and I was NOT allowed to play with them.

But I was a naughty little girl and slunk over to their house anyway.

Guess what? At the time they were totally contagious and yet I never got it.

Why?

I guess my milieu was not the right one.

But I watched my little cousin very closely because he was my buddy and the results of that experience? I have never been afraid of wc no matter how much they try to scare us.

Three of us had it last winter. No big deal. Not any more than a cold as far as worries go.
I've never seen anyone with pertussis so I guess I'm not scared. But sometimes I wonder if I should be scared? They make it sound so horrible...same goes with the other disease. I always wonder "Shouldn't I be worrying about this or not??" NOT!

Of all the "vaccine preventable" diseases there are pertussis is the only one that really scares me. But it doesn't scare me enough to inject my kids with all that cr@p.

I got over the whole "should I be afraid" thing once they came out with the chickenpox vaccine.

my dd had pertussis last year while she was 6 months old and *gasp* she didn't die. she whooped quite a bit, never turned blue, but did vomit a few times.... can you believe what an awful mom i am to let my dd vomit instead of jabbing her...

i did take her to the dr and he wouldn't swab her. said he didnt have the supplies and if she had it "there's nothing we can do anyways". i only went for confirmation and got that -- confirmation of my faith in mds

My mom is one of 7. The winter she was 12 ( and the oldest) 5 of the siblings including my aunt who was 4 months old had pertussis. Everyone survived and they had an out door bathroom!

I have converted my RN mother to a non vaccine activist. She refuses to give flu shots in the ER and posted a "did you know the flu vaccine contains mercury" infomation sheet on the bulletin board out side the ER LOL.

I'm 99% sure I had pertussis while teaching kindergarten when ds#1 was about 7-10 months old. Dr. couldn't diagnose what was wrong with me; kept telling me to use an inhalor (sp?) and said that it was probably nothing more than my airways being irritated and having small asthma attacks. Um, yea, ok ... never did a culture or anything to figure out why I was coughing straight for 3 months.

No, pertussis doesn't scare me; neither do any of the other VPDs.

You know, I really wonder if I had pertussis... I was in Monterey, CA, and at the military language school there... I got "bronchitis" for like 6 months, and had a helluva cough, whooping and everything... The Army medical people kept telling me it was just bronchitis, and here take this antibiotic and use this inhaler... Then I transferred to an AF base in TX, and then I had to get re-vaccinated because they "lost" my vaccination record (How? I do not know... the REST of my medical record was intact) and then within 3 months I was diagnosed with asthma, and they said THAT must have been the "bronchitis"...
but then I moved to Hawaii... and I don't really have any problems any more... I wonder if the "Bronchitis" was really pertussis.,.

I AM afraid of WC, but only if it involves an outdoor bathroom!

Oh, wait, I'm only afraid of having solely an outdoor bathroom!
