How to redirect....

My 12month old DS is infatuated with outlets and pulling the plugs out and trying to put them back in (what toddler isn't)....I have outlet covers on most of the outlets and have tried to block the ones that have something plugged in them...but he often finds a way to them...

anyway, my question is:

Does anyone have a good activity that I could redirect him to that would satisfy the same need for plugging and unplugging?

I have almost considered having my father build him a fake outlet or two into a board that he could play with...but I do want him to learn that we should play with outlets.....

any thoughts???

TIA!

My 12 month DD enjoys a chopstick and a toilet paper toob. Also a chopstick and a glass. That let's her put things into other things - and meet her criteria which is that the things must look like stuff we play with...

We also bought outlet cover/protectors which don't give the child access to the outlet and the plug at all. To me electricity is really dangerous - and not something I'm willing to let DD play with. I'll let her climb on top of the coffee table - but not play with plugs. I know 3 people who have been electrocuted by accidently grabbing the metal part of a plug when pulling it out. I wouldn't personally risk that with my 1 year old.

How funny. My ds loves to plug and unplug also! My dd was never interested in the outlets. Ds also has an infatuation with the vacuum cleaner and follows me around while I'm using it and unplugs it over and over. We keep a lot of stuff unplugged (with the outlets covered) during the day and plug them in at night or as needed.

If you find a good toy for practicing plugging/unplugging, let me know!

How funny! Simon loves the vacuum cleaner too!!! He also follows me around and trys to stick things in the accessory pipes (his favorite is a screwdriver....)

I hadn't thought of chopsticks...I am sure he will love them...but I am still hoping for a good plug/unplug toy...

I bought these, and after one or two tugs on the cords, DS and my daycare babe (10.5 months) have ignored the outlets.

What about a set of matryoshki, or a peg board - the geometric ones with 2, 3, 4 holes per shape?

I think I will have to find some of those outlet covers, Pumpkin Pie. Thanks!

Maybe an infatuation with plugs means they're going to be engineers.
