Anyone else?

Lachlan gets upset when I try to swaddle his arms into the blanket. He fights until his arms are free. Sorta defeats the purpose!!

LJ was definately like that, and now that he is 18 months old, he still doesn't like to be covered with a blanky (even when we are just hanging out and singing), his always wants his arms free. He let me cover him once and he let out the loudest laugh, and got his arms out a few seconds later.

Mairaed would wiggle till she got her arms free- she has to have access to her fist so she can suck on it!

I never even tried to get Piper's arms swaddled. She's always had to have her arms near her face.

I haven't even tried swaddling with this one. He seems to be OK settling on his own without the swaddle (well, not on his own, in my arms - he just stays settled).

With DD we used the Miracle Blanket for 6 months until she managed to escape from both the pouch at the bottom and get her arms out. The transition from swaddle to no swaddle led to a few rough weeks, so I'm hoping that having no swaddle this time will avoid one night time disturbance in the future.

Angie was born 5 days ago, and hates being swaddled---she'll scream and cry til she kicks her way free. We don't bother trying to swaddle her, it's obvious she doesn't like it.

My babies never liked being swaddled, but I did find that my last one LOVED being tightly wrapped on me in a stretchy wrap

I think it is because if you are going to lay them in a crib by themselves, they won't feel so lonely in a big empty space if their body is being held tight by the swaddling blanket?
If you will be holding the baby close to you anyway, maybe that does not make a difference and is even annoying to the baby?

That makes sense.

I swaddle my newborn to protect my nipples from her flailing hands. How can I get my breast into her mouth when her little fingers instinctively make it in just before I do?

Sometimes, as soon as she's "trapped" she falls asleep, so I think she likes it, too. I think she's learned to associate it with nursing maybe.

Someone should invent a teeny straitjacket-thing (Obviously that name would have to be changed for marketing purposes) for that purpose, because it really is way too easy for them to wriggle their arms out.

Hopefully soon she'll learn to stop putting her hands up there when she's hungry because I really hate swaddling her, I like to hold her little hands and rub her teeny fingers along my cheeks or lips. Gotta love baby love.

She had her hands up by her mouth for the whole end of my pregnancy, for a while I wondered if she'd be born with her hands up by her face (I saw a picture of a newborn with her hands and head being birthed at the same time- eeks!)

DS won't tolerate his arms being swaddled either. It still helps to have his body wrapped up though.

Piper actually does like being swaddled, just not with her arms down. I still wrap her arms most of the time, but with them up, near her face. That way she can get to her fist if she needs it. Lisarussell, they have swaddling blankets that are very effective! I really love, love, love my Kidoppotomus brand swaddling blankets. And Piper loves them.

Cora likes to be swaddled but with her hands free. She has to be able to suck her fists. I find she sleeps longer if she is swaddled though she'll sleep just covered also-just not as well.

Yep, Zoe's the same way. She'll wiggle her hands free in no time, but she sleeps so much better if her legs stay swaddled.
