what to do....

I am 4.5 months pregnant and I'm pretty sure my milk is gone. My dd is 28 months old. I've noticed pains in my breasts for a few weeks now and I'm assuming that was from my milk drying up. At the time I was thinking it was just related somehow to pregnancy. Dd asks for a drink of water or milk and a snack at night when she's tried to nurse to sleep at bedtime. After I give her a snack and a drink she will still try to nurse for a few minutes and then fall asleep. I feel sad for dd because she doesn't understand why this is happening. She did say last night that there is no milk left. She has always nursed to sleep for her naps and bedtime unless we're in the car and then she falls asleep very easily. I was thinking about getting her a bottle to have in between trying to nurse so she can at least drink something. What would/did you do in this situation?

I would not go to a bottle. Keep nursing if you can she will still enjoy the comfort. I would give my son a good snack some milk right before bed then we would brush teeth and lay down. I brought a sippy cup of water to bed with us and he would drink that when he was actually thirsty. We talked about how the milk might go away for a while so the baby could grow but that it would come back. He was super psyched when my colostrum came in!

I would just skip the bottle route and let her comfort nurse as long as she wants to. Good luck mama!

Thanks for your advice mamas ! I'll stick with comfort nursing and keep a cup with a drink handy if she gets thirsty. I've tried to give her a bottle once and she would have nothing to do with it so it probably wouldn't be helpful anyway. For the past few days she comfort nurses and then goes to the table to get her water and then comes back to nurse again. This has been really hard for her. She's been kicking, hitting and yelling at me. Not all the time but she seems to have a very short fuse when she's normally a very happy girl. I really wanted her to wean herself. This isn't what we planned. I'm just trying to spend lots of time with her and give extra cuddles.
