What do you do about wipes?

I am thinking about getting a couple of these http://www.mammasmilk.com/product.ph...cat=249&page=1 to keep cloth wipes wet and ready.

It takes a while with an unhappy baby to run a wash cloth into the bathroom and then the water runs ICE cold for up to 30 seconds.

I hate letting him scream while I run for wipes, especially in the middle of the night. And sometimes I need another wipe if he's had a blow out so I have to leave him flailing in poo to wet another.

We're totally committed to cloth wipes BUT we do need some kind of easier compromise!

I vaguely remember reading something about keeping a spray bottle on the changing table for wipes... but I suppose the water solution would not be very warm. We keep a ziploc bag in our diaper bag and that keeps them moist so while you are waiting for your mammasmilk thingies that may be an option... I have to make some cloth wipes. I am using up what we got for our shower... 6 big packages of them plus 2 tubs of seventh generation ones. We are going through them like CRAZY- this girl is a crazy pooper.

I got a wipe warmer at Target for like $18 and put cloth wipes in it along with the Punkin Butt diaper wipe solution. I've been pretty happy with it, although it seems to take a lot of solution to keep things damp. When I get sick of making the solution, I'll probably just go to some distilled water with tea tree oil.

Heck, we use just water, so that should still work okay in the wipes warmer, right? But I suppose it's got to be electric or battery powered and that makes me feel guilty!

my hot water heats up fast, so at home it's no worries- but when we're on the go, I keep them in a ziploc bag in my pocket- and my body heat keeps them warm. If you're using a ring sling or Moby wrap, sticking the ziploc bag between you & baby will keep it warm, too. Stop doing that, though when baby gets older because you don't want them to stick the plastic in their mouth (do I really need to say that- duh?

i just learned how to make things bold. I think those were the keywords.

We also play the run to the bathroom and get a wipe wet game. Not fun, but it works.

Ours is electric... sigh. Unless you are going to use a handful of grass on baby's bum, you have to decide whether you're going to waste power, fill the landfill, or waste water waiting for it to warm up at the sink.

This seems like a good spot for our newest icon: :

We did the wipes warmer with ds1 and it worked out well. Somehow we lost it and haven't replaced it yet. We've been running to the bathroom too and its awful b/c our water takes forever to get warm.

We also play the "wait for the water to warm" game at the kitchen sink. However, I use disposable wipes for out and about (used cloth wipes 100% with dd1, but I'm not that dedicated anymore) and I keep disposable wipes upstairs for middle of the night poos and on the changing table downstairs for when she's fussy and I didn't realize she was poopy and I don't want to wait for the water to warm. For the first 2 weeks or so, I only used cloth wipes on her delicate bum, but I'm not so crazy about it now. I'd say, we do about 50/50 between cloth and disposable wipes. Basically, if it's convenient for me to wait for the water to warm, I'll use cloth wipes.

i have little spray bottles with wipe solution that i make, and i just spray my wipes. it's not warm -- just room temperature -- but because the wipe isn't super soaked, i don't really think it matters.

i use these wipes, in velour/sherpa and both wren and i LOVE them. the plus was they were only $1 and shipping was free.

Wow, $1 -- how cool. I got mine from www.emibeans.com. I don't like velour, but LOVE sherpa wipes and flannel wipes. 8x8 size is a must I think.

I do a soap/TTO/water solution in a plastic tub next to the changing table and just refil it often. She doesn't seem to mind that it's cold since it's not dripping wet.

I don't know that I'll convert to cloth wipes while out for a long while yet since the disposable ones are so darn convenient for messy hands, tables and all the other yucky things that come up with a toddler.

I have a solution we started using here We had an old coffee thermos pump pot we weren't using, like this:

http://www.thermos.com/Product_detai...&ProductID=343

During the day, I fill it w/ 1/2 boiling water and 1/2 tap water (I get the boiling water when I make my tea). It keeps the water hot/ warm til the next day. We keep ours over the sink in the kitchen and move it to over the sink in the master bath at night. We keep it over the sink b/c when you pump the water out onto the wipe, there's some excess that comes out. You could easily put it on a dresser or changing table w/ a bowl under it though.

The only electricity you're using is to boil the water 1x/ day, you're not filling a landfill w/ sposies, and you're not wasting water waiting for it to heat up :

Thanks It only took me like 3 years to get my CDing act together  I figured this out about a year ago when I was decluttering and found the pump pot. I was SO tired of wasting water waiting for it to heat up at the sink. Especially since we were in dire financial straights and I HAD to cut our water bill.
Surprisingly, it worked REALLY well.

Great idea!! I have a thermos thing that might work as well!!!!

right now I am using my peri bottle from the hospital. I fill with water and add some aloe oil drops and a few drops of dr. bronners baby mild soap. It's room temp. I need to get a wipes warmer or something. The thrmos pump thing is great idea. It is just so big. I wish someone would invent something. There is obviously a need.

I also bought some organic bamboo terry cloth fabric, and bamboo velour and am making wipes. Very slowly.......

Back to the hemp issue....
What I need to know if that is what caused the fishy smell on my diapers. Because I read somewhere that hemp diapers and fabrics have natural oil residue and that you shouldn't wash your hemp cloth with reg cottton etc..... I finally noticed there is hemp oil in the soap. Wondering if that wil left and wil leave a residue. I finally removed the smell by raising the water temp on our water heater.

I work with hemp fabrics and have not noticed anything. Wht I do know is that dipes will begin to smell fishy so after the first cold rinse. I will use a little bit of Oxyclean in the hot wash... OR will use a full amount of Oxyclean and soak the dipes for a while. In fact that stripped the smell AND meconium stains off the Kissaluvs like a charm!

If that doesn't work, changing soaps should help in combination w/ the Oxyclean. I use Ecos from Costco.

Great idea with the thermos, Jenn.

For on-the-go, I'd recommend a small squirt bottle over a spray bottle. I started out with a spray bottle, years back, and got so frustrated when it took me 27 squirts to get the wipe wet enough to get the poo good and off! A squirt bottle drenches the wipe right away.
