Have you participated in the WIC peer support program and what did you think of it? I was asked to be a support counselor and am considering it but have not decided yet.
Thanks

Many of the women that I have met that are wic peer counselors are hugely impressive in their knowledge. I would def give it a try if its something you are interested in

Not the WIC program, but I'm a peer supporter for my local programme and I love it. The training's pretty good and it's nice knowing I've made a difference- there's a number of studies that show that the existence of a peer support programme increases the duration of breastfeeding, even if a mother doesn't use it.

I did it for almost 2.5 years and I loved it. I taught the bf classes at my WIC office and really feel like I was able to make a difference.

I am a WIC peer counselor and I love it. I will be taking the CLC certification in the spring (and WIC pays for it!) and ultimately want to sit for the IBCLC exam. In the meantime though, this is great. I help with BFing support groups and will be doing prenatal groups as well.

The training is very comprehensive as well.

I had started the LLL leadership procedures in the spring and then I moved in June. I am now 34 weeks pregnant and have 3 boys to take care of so I am pretty busy but after baby is born I think I will talk to the WIC people and go ahead with the training. Maybe I will call and at least find out all the details and see what I can do to get started now. Im really excited about it. I think I have alot to offer and feel like its time to do so.

I'm not sure how it's structured where you live, but around here they organize training when they have a good number of people interested in peer counseling. FTR, I brought DD to training with me.
