Baby boy's got big ones - Hydroceles anyone?

Ahhh it all started as they were pulling Lachlan out of the water and onto my chest and I (all hyper-like) said, "DON'T TELL ME WHAT IT IS! DON'T TELL ME WHAT IT IS!"

And they all answered in chorus, "We won't!"

Well as I was enjoying my moment by breaking down into tears and holding him close, my fingers naturally held his bum and after a moment I realized (and there was no mistaking) a fleshy sac between his legs. Not sure I would know what a girl feels like, I definitely knew a boy!

Everyone who saw them in the first few days had a remark.

And BOY did he has a big scrotum! It struck me... until I remembered almost 12 years ago my oldest son had the same condition. So I asked the Ped at 2 weeks PP, and she agreed. Baby has Hydroceles. Anyone else?

Luckily no treatment needed and I think it's already resolving.

I don't know what they are supposed to look like, but I thought the same thing about DS. The ped. at the hospital didn't say anything, but I am going to ask my midwife tomorrow when she comes for a check up. His scrotum seems so big in comparison to his little penis.

I'm thinking more like a Greek God -- Hydroceles, God of Sperm!

Nobody has said anything about James, but then again most of the extended family is still too scared of his uncirc'ed penis to loiter down there during diaper changes.

Hydroceles, Greek God of Sperm...

OMG I snorted and startled the baby!!!

TOO funny!!

My mom and dad wouldn't look either, but I have three boys who can't quit commenting and a husband who likes to make me snort like you.

Desmond has one.

Hmmm....I wouldn't be surprised if Caleb has one or two. His balls seem HUGE to me still and he was 5 wks today. I guess it's something that usually resolves itself? I'll ask at his 2 month ped appt at the beginning of Jan, but if there's nothing I can do, why worry? :

No worris - it resolves itself eventually.

Yup, Noah had the same thing at birth. We were taken a bit off guard when the ped. mentioned it because she said it wouldn't affect his fertility! Wow! We hadn't even thought that far ahead!

I hadn't even thought of that either!

I totally thought you were citing some Greek god I didn't remember from mythology class

The reason my midwife knew Oliver had flipped around to frank breech in labor is that when she checked me she felt his testicles! In surgery when they pulled him out DH goes "OH MY GOD", and then "Now I know why Joey (midwife) felt his testicles first" ... they were slightly... um... engorged... I think they're normal now tho. DH was very proud that day for many reasons!

Glad it resolves on its own!
