What do you put in it? Just water? Water and witch hazel? Water and sitz bath herbs? Or all three? I keep reading different stuff and was wondering what has worked for you ladies.

I normally use just warm water. I'd love to hear about other ideas. :

I have a few for each bathroom. One set will have witch hazel, the other will have a sitzbath tea with comfrey.

Where do you get Witch Hazel? Does it come in a bottle?
I hardly used mine, but the first day I made tea with sitz bath herbs and put that in

I didn't even think about witch hazel. I am just using a cup with warm water.

With dd I used a sitzbath mix...I think it was the prepackaged motherlove herbal one? I'm pretty sure it had comfrey and uva ursi and a few other things....

This time, I bought a spray to use but will still likely use a peri bottle, probably with a strong comfrey infusion in it.....

I'm freezing witch hazel on pads, which was recommended strongly by a personal friend/doula as having helped drastically with her her recent birth recovery .....

I just used tap water. If I had the time and inclination, I let it warm up first.

This time I had DH hook up a mini shower to the toilet water line - it'll be cold, but it'll be an endless, on-demand supply

From anywhere, like a mainstream grocery or pharmacy. It comes in bottles that look just like rubbing alcohol bottles and it's really cheap.

OMG, Really?

I think I used mine for like 3 weeks PP. It felt so good....and kept me nice and clean.

Maybe I should be using one now.

DONT USE LAVENDAR!!!

For whatever crazy reason I dropped a little lav. EO in their after I had ds.

It burned like hellfire and SLIME began to drip from everywhere down there. I think it smelled funky too.

I still do not know what happened. :

My gut tells me its not a good idea to put Lavendar essential oil, (or ANY essential oil) in your peri bottle.

Yea, if I clean our toilet with lavender oil and then rinse it really well, even just sitting on the toilet makes my girly bits feel like they are on fire.

My MW said that she'll put tea tree oil in the peri bottle with the water.

Not sure if that is a good idea, but sounds like she's done it before???

My midwife recomends tea tree oil (antiseptic) and I also have some candula (supposed to help speed healing.)

TTO might cause burning too. But maybe not if you only use a little bit.

I've just used plain warm water in the past. And I depended on my peri bottle every time I went to pee for several weeks. I can remember standing at the sink about to wet myself trying to wait to get the water warm enough. (we need a cross legged smilie)

I have considered using my herbal sitz bath in my peri bottle for the first day or two, but I probably will just use it in the tub.

I did this too... I had to get harsh with myself and MAKE myself remember to fill it up before I left the bathroom because juggling the baby and doing the pee-pee dance and waiting for the damned water to heat up just about turned me into a raving lunatic.

Fill up the bottle before you leave the potty!
