Reese Elizabeth (yep, MmeMuffin, we stuck with the original name!) made her way earthside last night at 6:41 in an unexpected UC. First contractions were at 1pm, so a pretty quick labor. MW made it to the house about 30 minutes or so after she was born...I had no concept of time, though! She was born with me squatting in the tub, just like I'd dreamed all throughout the pregnancy.

We wound up having to take her in- her breating was a little off (she was retracting) and had trouble keeping her temp up even with skin-to-skin contact and a heating pad. They are keeping her in NICU for two days for observation. She's nursing like a champ though (has since birth!) and the nurses have been great about making sure she gets NO artificial nipples. The only hard part is seeing the IV (for fluids because she was a little dehydrated- she was tired and not nursing through the night), because they had to put it in her scalp.

She was 7lbs even and 20.5 inches. I was 37w1d, no tearing, just a couple of small skid marks. Dad and I both caught her together. The birth itself was wonderful. DD1 came in before we left for the hospital and was head over heels for her "sissy day-dee". She's so awake and just such a calm baby so far. Once we both get our showers and changed we're heading back up to the hospital. But I'll probably be on MDC a lot- we have internet in her room (she's in a private room since she was a homebirth transfer and they don't know if there were any scary germs in our home, which is fine because I don't know what scary germs might be in the nursery!).

Sorry to hear about the impromptu trip to the NICU - that can't be fun.

But that sounds like a wonderful birth, you'll have to tell us more about it when you get a chance.
Congratulations, adorable name - and welcome earthside baby Reese!

Congratulations! Sounds like you had a fantastic birth - good for you! The NICU is no fun at all so here's hoping she is home asap. Sometimes those 37 weekers just need a couple of days to get everything moving in the right direction. Sounds like things are moving that way.
