It sits on top of DS's clothes cupboard. We'll use it again early next year when we're trying again.

I guess I don't have to find good jars. We're using a known donor, but are going through a sperm bank for convenience and legal protection. He's actually coming down next week to make his deposits. But we still don't have his appointments set up because, well, we're dumb and didn't realize that the bank won't set up our appointments until all the paperwork is in, and as of last week, we hadn't gotten the 25 page questionnaire to KD. Luckily, he did it this weekend (he's so good) and I believe that the bank has it back now. Sigh.

We're really lucky. Our KD's been a really good friend for many years. And he's pretty much the male version of my wife. He was our first choice, and we're really glad he said yes. I wish he was closer so we could do it fresh (and save the loads of money we're giving the nice sperm bank people). But, alas, he is many states away and a grad student so trying to schedule in person visits isn't really an option.

So here's hoping we can get his appointments scheduled and get the swimmers in the freezer. At best, he'll be able to make two deposits and we'll hopefully wind up with at least 4 months worth of sperm to be released in late June. At worst, we get to spend Christmas with a dear friend who we get to really annoy by giving him presents.

Here's to thinking positive.

We're using my brother...we were doing the syringe and jar method until he switched schools. So, now we're waiting for his second HIV test results and then we're good to go with the doctor!

Any one have experience using egg white if you've got a lack of cervical fluid or whatever the fluid that helps the little guys get through the cervix? We read about that and have been wondering what others have found about that...

We've used two KDs, and baggies worked out best for them logistically. They don't call it an erection for nothin, and unless their aim is really good, some donors have a really difficult time catching the product. A baggie can just sit on the tip and catch it all. Then it gets more liquid and collects in one corner. We just sucked it up into a children's oral syringe and insemmed from there. It was no problem.

You might want to post this in the Trying to Conceive forum- I know I've seen lots of threads about that. I've heard of a couple women using egg whites, but most seem to use something called PreSeed that you can order online. It's a sperm-friendly lubricant. The other important thing is that if you have sex beforehand, don't use any lube that isn't PreSeed (or egg whites, I guess), as most lubes kill sperm.

Good luck!

We used a KD. Since my DP works at a medical facility she got sterile urine collection cups. It did the trick. We also did DIY home insemination. Saved us a ton of money!

Do you warm the cup/jar first?
or does it not matter if some of the sperm gets chilled.

I considered grabbing a urine cup outta the kids pediatricians office bathroom a few days ago. Should have.

Sperm can actually survive at room temperature for an hour. So you don't have to warm the cup as it'll be room temp too! I usually hold the jar in my hands to keep it a bit warmer than room temp while DW is getting "ready," so to speak. I know I always stress way too much about time, but beneath it, I know that the swimmers are strong for a bit....

we didn't-we just made sure that the jar was room temperature. However we inseminated in April-and the sperm never left our house-(He did his thing in the bathroom, and then gave us the goods immediately).

Same with us. We hung out in our bedroom while KD did his thing in the living room (that's where the internet access is...) He then left the cup on the table and went to the washroom, and knocked on the bedroom door to let us know it was ready. I'd say that it was out in the air for less than 15 minutes total.

For those of you whose KD is/was not conveniently close, did you use a clinic? If so, what services did they provide, is there a waiting period and how much did it cost? DF will likely be the KD for our mommies-to-be but we live about 6 hours away. A weekend trip will be fine but if our recipient is ovulating in the middle of the week then it will be very difficult to "conduct business". We all would like to stay away from the medical profession if we can but it doesn't look like that will be possible. Are there any other alternatives? The best we can hope for is that she is ovulating on a weekend and becomes pg the first time.

I have been really lucky in that regard. Our KD lives clear across the continent (were in Ontario, he's in California), and he flew up last time we TTC. I was ovulating over a weekend, and so he came up for a long weekend. We inseminated Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. I got pregnant on that first try.

Right now we're planning to TTC #2, and once again it looks like I will be ovulating over a weekend (I am very, very regular.) We'll try the same insem schedule and hope for the same results!
