My midwives are offering a second pku test tomorrow (babe is 2 weeks)-is this typical? The first one at 24hr came back normal. With ds1, I seemed to remember that his ped offered but didn't find it necessary so we didn't do it. TIA!!

We had a second one for DS but only because his results came back positive for one of the disorders they test for.
With DD we only had one, and I don't know anyone else who's had more than one if their first results were normal.
I would ask them what the rationale is for the 2nd PKU test.

we didn't do the pku this time around, but mw showed us all the info. they now have another besides the "maditory" one that tests for something like 52 diff. things...maybe thats what they are talking about? i know you have to pay for that one though.

Hmmm...doesn't seem necessary if the first one was normal. I only had one done with dd1 and dd2. With Piper, we did a repeat PKU because the first one was abnormal. Still waiting on those results.

I was thinking about you when I started the thread and wondering if you had Piper's second test back yet...

I'll call on Monday if I haven't heard back. They told me it can take up to 2 weeks to get it back. Next Monday will have been 2 weeks. I'm anxious to hear back. But a little research told me that the false positive to true positive rate is 50:1. So, I'm going to assume it was a false positive for now. The ped. said she looked absolutely perfect!
