So I called my family doc and said I tested pos for strep B at 36 weeks in my urine took a round of antibiotics and then 37 weeks urine came back clean no strep B I asked if she would do a vag swab to see if it was in my urine and she said if my urine wqas clean my vag is most likly clean anyway so why bother- then I said well MW want to treat me as positive because it said positive once and she said since the last test showed neg she sure I dont have it, but take the antibiotocs if my MW thinks its nessasry!!! Then I said if its clean taking antibiotics is just dumb, so she said dont take them then , now we will just wait and see if she signs the baby out as healthy right after he is born- I bet the stupid doc will change her mind and not wannna release us---------- well at least I have a most current clean strep B urine in my file as of 37 weeks!

It may not be a problem. This is what my MW told me:

Being positive is only a concern IF you are one of the 10 percent of women whose labor starts out with your water breaking and then IF you are one of the unlucky few who don't deliver within 24 hours. So it really should not be an issue.

I am sorry that they are making such a big deal about this.

That's not really true. It's more commonly a problems in the above situation, but it can happen even if you are only in labor for an hour and your water breaks in the last minute.

I've never heard of GBS being treated prior to labor. But if you are negative now, then that's a good thing!

But it's very, very rare. And protocol calls for treating GBS *if* it is present in the urine during pg, otherwise waiting until labor.
