Another no HB at 7 wk U/S

We had our first OB appointment yesterday, and according to my last AF I should be 7 weeks today. The U/S showed no heartbeat, and development appeared to be 5 weeks, not almost 7.

This morning I looked at DS' first U/S, which was at 6w3d, and there was a definite heartbeat. On top of everything else, while I'm starting to pooch a little around the middle, I really haven't had any of the PG symptoms I had last time . . . like constipation, morning sickness, fatigue, etc. I know every pregnancy is different, but I'm really worried now.

Has this happened to you?

Hi,

This happened to me back in February and it turned out to be a blighted ovum. The difference, perhaps, is that I had spotting from about 6 weeks on and that is what prompted the ultrasound. I would have been about 7 weeks at the time of the ultrasound and they said I was measuring about 4 weeks and 3 days. My big tipoff that something was wrong was the onset and then quick demise of pregnancy symptoms. I had morning sickness with my dd and also with this current pregnancy, so I had an inkling that something was up. I decided to let the placenta pass on its own and declined a d and c. It took two weeks from the initial diagnosis for the miscarriage to set in.

That said, other women on the boards have posted stories with different outcomes, i.e. a healthy baby. I would say listen to your body and trust your instinct. That, and of course ask for a follow-up ultrasound in a week or so.

Good luck mama!!

Oh wow, I am so sorry to hear about this yet it makes me very nervous at the same time. I'll be 6 weeks on Sunday and my first doctors appointment will be at 8 weeks. I'm terrified about finding someting out like this. I will keep you in my prayers.

Could you have ovulated later than you thought??

You should see a definite heartbeat at 7 weeks in MOST cases. There's a website with lots of stories of hope, though.... it's http://www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com/

OB just called to say that my hCG level is around 3,000 -- which would be fine if I am indeed only 5 weeks, but I quadruple-checked my calendars at home and work and my dates are correct.

The u/s definitely showed a yolk sac and something else attached to it. DH is convinced that my dates are wrong and there's nothing to worry about . . . is it even possible? There's no doubt about the day we had sex (he was out of town the following week, so that's the only possible day), and I ovulated a day or two afterward . . . all in all, I remain very worried. I mean, is it even feasible that my dates are right but I'm really only 5 weeks pregnant???

Going back for another u/s and blood test Monday to see if there's any change. Thank you so much for the info and your prayers! :

Every baby develops differently. That is the honest to goodness truth no matter how you look at it. There is no perfect dates, levals, numbers etc, only perfect ones for your baby.

Sperm can live inside you for days, and to top that off, implantation can be drasticly different for each woman and that can really throw off your blood count levels and things like that.

Crossing fingers that all will be well for you on monday. Give your self a break this weekend and try not to worry. Stress will only make things worse, not better. Relax, do something you enjoy.

Good luck
