My ILs came this past weekend to "do" Christmas... My EBF babe was the lucky recipient of a formula dispenser.

????

I didnt know what to say so I just looked at it and put it down.

Your baby can teethe on it!

Ah...slightly more subtle than the case of formula I got for Christmas from my MIL when I was EBF'ing my first born. I got another case for my birthday in February, as I didn't seem to get the hint the first time. She came around though, and didn't bother to give me anything feeding related with my other two.

Did you get the vibe that this was an insinuation of some sort or are they just clueless?

What's a formula dispenser?

You know, sometimes, I think it just really doesn't occur to people that EBF babies don't need any of this stuff. That's what I think when I am being charitable - when I am not, I remember that my MIL brought me a set of bottles at the hospital with DD as I struggled desperately to get my little 35 weeker to latch and I remember why DD's birth was the end of my tolerance for her.

It is angering on so many levels. They are either assuming that you will FF, or that you must supplement with formula or they are assuming that you are going to fail.

i have no idea what so ever what a formula dispenser is.

but my momster-in-law would prolly get me something like that.

I know a lot of people that use them as snack holders, they are really perfect for that. Is it possible she doesn't know what it's actually for and that's how she's seen it used? When I see an empty one, my mind first thinks snacks, not formula (even though that's what they're supposed to be used for, and I don't really know if the label is obvious).

My breastfeeding friend asked for (and received) the same thing. Her intention was to use it for snacks.

you know, not everyone is out to get breastfeeders, believe it or not. They probably had good intentions and just didn't realize it. Try to remember how things were when they were parents.

Who knows the reasoning?? BUt I bought one when we were attempting to wean to medical food, and its now a snack holder for my older child since we aren't weaning. It's perfect for the car!

Hmm I dont think I implied that she was out to get me? My intention was to demonstrate the cluelessness. No I dont think she meant anything "mean" I just thought it was odd. And the label is very clear "formula dispenser"...but putting Cheerios in it is a great idea! Thanks

Yeah, my gma said "I know you don't use formula, but I figured you could put cereal in it for him to snack on."
