I had a mama come up to me when I was struggling to make DD happy, nursing her on the street curb outside the cafe where we were trying to eat brunch (she was getting very upset being inside sitting still, erg... but too distracted to nurse outside with cool palm trees!). So the mama came out just to ask if I needed help and told me she nursed her kid for like 22 months or something... I felt a bit funny b/c I was only frustrated w/ DD's emerging personality of being SAD in crowds indoors and my breakfast getting cold and I'm from a BFing family, but I certainly appreciated it!!

I've never really been APPROACHED...but lots of smiles and a few very nice comments. I try to always smile or say something fast to BFing mamas too.

I said something to a nursing mom once - we were at a children's museum and as I walked past, I said I liked her sling. Then I noticed that she was nursing and said something like "Oh, and you're nursing, that's great!" She gave me a funny look and I smiled and walked away.

Another time, I ended up getting into a conversation with a mom at a food court about getting my DS to eat veggies. She suggested getting him to dip them in ranch dressing and I said he usually doesn't get dairy, only my milk. She leaned forward and kind of whispered that she was still nursing her two-year-old. I said, "That's great!" She got this thrilled look on her face and gave me a big hug, then explained that nobody supported her continuing to nurse and she was keeping it a secret from a lot of people because she knew they'd hassle her. I was so happy to be supportive to someone who didn't have a lot of EBF support but was still doing it.

Awww - that just made me feel all warm and fuzzy. What a nice story!

Not while NIP, but while I was pregnant, everyone from the taxi driver to the the grocery store checkout person double checked that "you're going to breastfeed right? It's the best thing for the baby." Preaching to the choir folks....
