Restoring balance after the blackout

Since the blackout my house is full of horrible smells from rotting food and such. We've since removed it, but the smells remain.

The water system is contaminated and cannot be used to cook, clean or anything else. It smells HORRIBLE!

I'm at a TOTAL loss as to where to begin! How do I clean my kids, my home and our food?

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We are using bottled water for most things, but it's in VERY short supply locally and we're fast running out.

msmom, you've had beyond your share of problems with living in that house!!!

for cleaning without water, try adding powder to the root of your hair in lines and brush it through. It will help absorb oil and get you through another day.
You can try whatever powder you have on hand or baking soda/cornstarch mix if you'd like.

For body, I've found cleaning with salves/creams works well for the kids dirty parts and maybe use paper towels until the water is good again for cleaning laundry

for you and your dh, maybe some alcohol on the armpits to quick clean / deodorize until the the water is back up and running? Just some ideas...I know they aren't solutions

Thank's LaLa, there are no solutions - ALL ideas appreciated! I like the alcohol under the pits idea! I'm pretty stinky! I'm using mild soaps with bottled water for our bodies. It's the refrigerator that I'm most concerned about. I cleaned out with vinager and water, but it's still pretty stinky. Our tub, toilet and sink are getting a pink mold around them, so I may have to use a little {gulp} bleach. I tried some tea tree oil, but it did nothing.

Thank you, thank you for responding and making suggestions. I also like the powder at the hair line idea. Especially for dd who sweats like a 40 year old going through menopause.

I read somewhere recently that if you spray some Vinegar followed by Hydrogen Peroxide, then wipe, it kills more germs and bacteria then bleach!

And smells better too...
You could try that?

Don't mix them, though...spray one at a time.
