Mastitis?

Do you have to have the red mark on your breast? Last night I got a fever (102) and my left breast was very tender on one side. I took some Tylenol and went to bed early with the baby and he nursed mostly on that side. This morning the fever is gone and my breast feels better. It is still tender though. I don't know what to think.

Anyone ever have this happen to them?
Thanks,
Shannon

I've had mastitis 2x (with DS1) and never had the red mark -- just tenderness and feeling really sick all of the sudden -- almost flu-like. Sounds like you might have dodged much of an infection if you feel better without antibiotics. I think that warm compresses are supposed to help, too (and lots of nursing on that breast).

Mastitis stinks. Hope you keep feeling better.

i'm working on clearing up my mastitis. i got them all the time with DS#1. this is my first with mabel. the red spots don't always show up...this time they showed up the day after my fever broke. lots of hot compresses, showers, baths...what ever you have time to do. i also use my heating pad when i can't get to anything else. lots of vitamin C, of course tons of rest, tylenol and i just found out here a couple days ago about poke root. i just ordered some from www.herblore.com it also has an article about it. scheelimama told me about it if you look back a page you should find the thread "clooged duct pain". HTH!
