i have plans to make a set of bean bags this weekend for my nephew, and i was going to put actual dried beans in them. do i need to worry about bugs? for those who have made things filled with rice, corn, beans, etc has this ever been an issue?!

thanks!

We have a set of real bean-filled bean bags, and have not had any issues whatsoever.
I'd say go for it and don't worry!

I would think it would depend on where you live. I live in CO and pests in general aren't typically an issue. If you're concerned, you could put the beans in a plasic bag before putting them in your beanbag.

We live in a wooded area and get all manner of pests. I made ds2 a set of beanbags last year and haven't had a problem.

I've made my DS bean bags with real beans, and while we've never had problems with pests, the beans did sprout after my DS mouthed the bags. So I'd say the bean bags would be fine for older children, but not for those who still eat their toys

If you're worried, you could bake them periodically. That was recommended to me if using beans to stuff a Waldorf doll.

My mother used to make toys for me as a kid and she filled them with beans and dried peas. We never had any problems at all You can use popping corn, too!
