Need idea for gift for baby from IL

Yes, my IL have not yet gotten anything for baby.

Honestly, I can't think of anything we need but they feel the need to get him something (if only so I can write it in the baby book).

They are willing to spend $100-200.

What do we actually need? I'd like to get something useful. The only think I can think of so far is a car seat for when he outgrows the bucket since DD will be in hers (it's a Britax Marathon so good to umpteen pounds) for quite a while.

Anything else I might be overlooking? We have a borrowed swing and a small rocker/vibrating thing, a jolly jumper for a bit later, an embarrassing number of slings, enough cloth dipes to get by (I think), probably good for clothes, although I'll just pick up some used if we're missing anything. We have a high chair for him for later. No exersaucer but I hardly used it for DD (returned it to the people who loaned it to us) and I'm pretty sure I won't need it for him.

Also, they are not going to want to order anything online. They are definitely TRU/BRU kinda people.

I could also ask them to give me the money and I'd put it in his bank account.

If you get money, you might want to buy bonds or something that will accrue more interest than just a regular account. Credit unions have pretty good interest in their children's accounts, though, if you are eligible to join one.

I would think ahead... Nov babies aren't going to really be getting many gifts again until they are ONE! They'll have a birthday and Christmas (or other winter holiday you celebrate) a whole YEAR from now!!!
So how about something that baby might enjoy when he/she is older? Push toys? OR Slings/wraps for you? That sort of thing....

What about something like a membership to the zoo or a children's museum when they're a little older?

Or you could use it to get some photos done.

This is so not AP : , but I'd probably buy a double stroller-my back doesn't handle carrying/wearing babies all the time once they're about 6 months and my toddler wears out walking after a several blocks.

If I were you, I'd go with either a carseat, a savings bond, or something like Target giftcards.

We're in the same boat here (need nothing) so I'd probably go for savings bonds...but I do want one of these: http://www.2modern.com/modern-baby/B...ebaby-EuroTote (you can get them cheaper on Amazon I think)

One of our friends has one. She's Danish and says everyone "back home" has them.

I would ask for the next size up in cloth dipes.....$100-$200 would put you in a really goood spot!
