I'm having trouble locating this in Canada to sneak a peak. Before I buy a subscription I was wondering if anyone had read it and could give me a review.

I found a copy of Living Crafts in Michaels, the crafts superstore. Do they have Michaels in Canada? If they do, check it out there.

I posted a review of it on my blog here If you enjoy handcrafts, I think that you would appreciate it a great deal. I purchased a subscription a couple weeks ago and I already received the first issue (which I had also bought at Joann's so I passed the duplicate along to another crafty mama. If you have specific questions, I can do my best to answer them.

Thanks for the reviews.
Unfortunately our Michaels had never heard of it, neither had our crunchy/eclectic bookstore or the local big chain. So I think I will just go ahead and get a subscription. It sounds lovely and I have lots of crunchy/waldorfy friends to share it with if it ends up not being my cup of tea.

I had seen this in a store but hadn't really looked it over because, for pete's sake, does the world really need another craft magazine?

Then I looked at the website and wondered if the world (and my bookcases) really need more Waldorfy-type craft how-tos (I have what one might consider an excessive amount of craft books, particularly the Waldorfy type).

But after seeing this thread I looked at it again in Michael's, and, oh, I'm in love.

It reminds me a lot of Mothering -- the paper type, the layouts, the photography, some of the same advertisers.

Let's face it, a lot of the Waldorfy craft books are sort of vague and leave much to the reader's imagination. This has color photography. It has specific directions, and tells the exact brand of yarn used or beeswax used or what-have-you. It also gives ideas for using your own imagination. You can have a totally stuffed-up head (that would be me today) and not feel overwhelmed by trying to figure out how the heck they did this stuff.

My dds, ages 12 and 8, also adored it. The 8yo thought it seemed like a girly sort of magazine, btw, although the 12yo could see that boys would like some of the projects. They oohed and aahed over the felt hearts, the felt holly, the felt angel, the valentine doll, the beeswax snail, and are pretty sure I need the earrings (all that in a 5 minute look at the magazine!). For the record, these are kids who then got out the Glitz gun and applied little plastic sparkles to everything in the house -- these are not crunchy kids who use only natural materials in their art project, they are quite eclectic in their crafting.

As for me, those pillowcases are happening in our house! What a cool idea! I want to run to the fabric store now and start sewing them! (They're seasonal pillowcases for kids' bed pillows.)

I got a peek at the first issue a couple days ago and wow, it is so gorgeous! I just ordered a subscription for myself. Not only are the projects adorable, but the magazine has an overall wonderful vibe about it. I can't wait to get my own copy!

Have you found a page on their website or a way to get a subscription sent to Canada? I'd really love to subscribe, but I can't find an international subscription page on their site!

I love it. I am relatively new to Waldorf crafting, and I can still manage a lot of the projects in the first issue. It is beautiful, the projects are gorgeous, and the list of vendors is great. I could pm you the email address of the editor, who I bumped into on the Waldorf Craft yahoo group.

Just click on the Subscribe tab. You have an option to choose Canada right on that page in the first couple of rows.
I ordered it after Christmas and it was in my hands within a week or two.

Thanks
I was too impatient to click the tabs to see what was going on, and when I couldn't select Canada in the country part first thing, I jumped to conclusions. Whoops!

Ditto to Queen Gwen. Loving the Spring issue! Get it!!

I am making the little knitted bunnies, as I surf the web here. (I'm a new knitter and needed help from the knittinghelp.com videos.)

The butterfly wings are so cool. I'm thinking of modifying the idea a bit though, changing the shape, doing different colors and making Dragon Wings!

Join the Yahoo Group too. People were talking there about the butterfly wings, and someone asked what "prefelt" was (you are supposed to use it as the base), and the designer popped on and explained! How cool is that?
