how do you make doublers/soaker pad without a serger?

I don't understand how to sew my doublers with a turn and topstitch method. If I fold it in thirds, and just stitch down the sides, I will have one exposed edge ...I'm just confused. Can someone please help?

I just used the zig-zag stitch. It doesn't look as professional as a serger, but it gets the job done and is functional. IMO, doublers don't have to be pretty.

You can only turn and topstitch two layers (or more) of fabric. So you take your two layers of doubler, lay them right sides together. Stitch around 3 of the sides and part of the 4th. Turn them right-side out, tuck in the piece that didn't get seamed, and then topstitch all the way around all four sides. This prevents them from bunching, the seams from pulling out in the wash, and also closes that area you left open for turning.

If you're doing single layer doublers, you can't turn and topstitch. In that instance, just do a wide tight zig zag around all four sides.

Yep, a tight-wide zig-zag will work. Some machines have an overlock stitch on them too... it looks like a straight stitch with a slanted stitch coming off the straight one-if that makes any sense.

I sometime do a straight stitch all the way around, and then do a zig zag on top of it.
