Do your teens get gifts for others in the family?

If you celebrate Christmas, and get gifts in your family for each other...
Do your teens buy gifts for others? Make them? Is it just for you, the parents, or is it just for siblings? Do they get money from you or do they spend their own?

I don't have teens but I have teen nieces and they give the *best* gifts-all homemade. Their mom pays for the supplies but they do all the work. They give them to all aunts, uncles, grandparents as well as older (adult) cousins.

last year one made biscotti and the other made toffee
Other gifts have included flavored oils and vinegars, candles, and pottery.

I dont have teens but my 4 and 7 yr old spend a few dollars of thier allowances on holiday presents for the family. I think each one spent about $15 total and they made the decision on their own.

Now the rest of our extended family... thats a totally different story of self-centered, consumerism, just plain outright scrooges...:

Rain buys them... it's been sort of a gradual transition from me funding them to her funding them, but this year it's apparently all her. Sometimes she buys supplies and then makes gifts... she and a friend went and bought a bunch of chocolate and nuts and dried fruit and made some fruity nutty chocolate things, which they wrapped up nicely with cellophane and ribbons to give as gifts. Other years she has knitted stuff for people.

In our family, I think she's buying for me, her aunt, her aunt's partner, her uncle (although this year he's in Iraq and requested that real gifts wait until he's home, because he has no room to store things), her grandpa, her grandpa's wife, and her great-grandma.

She also bought some of her friends gifts...

My kids have always bought gifts for each other, me and dh, and grandparents. And friends if they choose to. Before they had jobs, I transferred $20 a month into each of their accounts, and we would go to the bank in Dec, withdraw the money, do up a list and decide how much to spend on each person, and go shopping. My daughter is only 13 so she still does this. My boys have jobs so they go shopping on their own and buy for the same people now.
