should i?

Thread Starter
after the birth, i requested the forms to get a copy of the official medical file about the birth from the birth center so that i could review it. it's not that i think they did anything wrong, or i want to go over it with a fine-toothed comb, but i was there for two days laboring, and i was so exhausted for the last full day of it that i napped between contractions and lost a lot of sense of time passing and the events as they unfolded. i thought that it might help me to see, step by step through the nurses' and midwife's notes, exactly what happened.

anyway, after a week, i'm rethinking this. does it really matter if i'm spot on about some of the details in my memory? am i going to see something that's going to make me angry at myself?

what would you guys do?

I'd definitely wait a while to process the birth yourself before reading someone elses take on it.
It may 'change' the intact memories you do have.

If it were me, and I had good memories, I'd leave it at that.
I watched the birth video and didn't remember some things that happened and it kinda freaked me out. And I wated until DS's first birthday to watch it.

I love having a copy of my birth records. I still have my memories, but I like knowing the exact timing of everything that happened and every little detail. But that's just me. Also, it's been good to have a copy since different MWs this time around wanted to know some details about bleeding last time. I just copied the file for them. The birth center I was at before closed, so I'm glad I have those records.

I would love to have a copy of my files, personally. But you may want to give it some time to process before you read them.
