Freaking out: the FLU?!

The boys had the sniffles which we aggressively treated with Airborne and vitamin C and thankfully they all feel great but have a little bit of a stuffy nose and cough... except Taylor.

I think he has the flu!!!! I am freaking out now. He was up all night coughing and he is dizzy and weak and looks just terrible. Feverish maybe (will check again in a minute).

We haven't had the flu in a long time. Why now? And I swear I have PTSD over the flu in my family. Plus, I remember getting it myself 9 years ago when DS2 was this age. It was a nightmare.

Is the flu dangerous for the baby?

I'm too panicky to think -- What do I do for him? He's had Emergen-C this morning. What else can I do? I just found something on GSE so I am going to try that http://www.pureliquidgold.com/health.htm

Yikes!

If it were me, I'd take him to the doctor. I know that for adults, there are some medications that can lessen the severity of the flu (I dont' know much else about them...). But I know that flu can be dangerous for very little ones.

For me, the doctor trip would be mostly to confirm weather or not it is actually the flu so you know how careful you need to be with the little guy.

I don't have any actual advice... I'm so scared of the bad winter germs. I've become a militant hand-washing enforcer (DS1 is in daycare) and since then he's come home with croup and a stomach bug.

Good luck. Hope your kiddos feel better soon.

If the flu is in your house, then your body has already started making antibodies for Lachlan in your breastmilk. You can help them out by continuing the vitamin C, zinc and drinking about 2 gallons of clear fluids a day (water, tea, emergen-c, etc). Also, rest...lots and lots of rest.

I'd also say call your midwife (am I the only one who calls my midwife for everything?). I know you were less than satisfied with their care of you, though... So, maybe your ped?

Lots and lots of hugs.

I read somewhere that having open windows is as effective as wiping down surfaces in your house. Would the weather permit that where you are?

Don't forget the hand-washing. My mom taught DD1 to cough into the crook of her arm ("cough e-bow Mama!") instead of her hand so she won't spread the virus as much.

Hope everyone is well soon!

Whenever we get sick, I make sure we have plenty of honey & ginger laying around----Makes for one of the best bug-busting teas out there, especially for as simple as it is.

So far I've picked up some homeopathics for easing flu symptoms, Emergen-c for increased Vit C, increased his fluids, Tylenol for fever, keeping him in bed, and started him on GSE. Wish one of those could stop the spread to the rest of us though!

Something has helped - he's perkier. Definitely sick, but he was able to walk to the bathroom just now without the major misery.
