Well, as part of my decluttering, we moved all DD1's toys to her room and kept DD2's downstairs, so the toy chest in the living room is wayyyy less cluttered!

Updated totals

If I do one room at a time, it will need not only decluttering but organizing and deep cleaning. I don't think I can do that just yet.

So to help me to see a difference, besides this list below, I collect all the items I find from all over and set them on and under one table. Then I go about getting rid of that stuff in various ways.

So while it's coming from all over the house and I don't notice a huge difference, I notice a difference on and around and under that table. So it helps with the mental feelings about the whole thing.

I think once I get this large amount of eBaying done I will settle in to one room at a time, decluttering and deep cleaning.

Here's my update:

I cleared out a cabinet in the laundry room:

- got rid of a bunch of expired vitamin bottles (at least 6-8)
- donated a mug
- condensed three bins into one for first aid, essential oils, tylenol and homeopothy
- threw away some broken Christmas lights

Got a little worried that I won't have 2008 things left to de-clutter by the time 2008 actually rolls around!

...then I remembered the basement!

49 more things decluttered this morning! All found in DS dresser. Its been awhile since I've pulled out clothes that no longer fit him

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm so into this challenge. I wasn't going to start until the New Year but between homeschooling, running a dayhome, volunteering with a very busy active group and other activities I think I need to start now while I still have 3 days off.

First off, the 3 large junk draws and the catch all shelf in the kitchen. I'm going to count papers by piles because I seem to be fascinated with collecting it.

What a fabulous idea! I am so in.

Ok I'm in!!! I've never posted here before but I have been lurking for ooooh maybe 2 years or so. I have been greatly inspired by all the posts I have read. In the past 2 years I have managed to declutter several thousand items. Now, I would like to "peel away another onion layer". I don't know that I will have 2008 items, but it is worth a try. I love to search my house for things to get rid of. So here is to a Happy New Declutter Year!!

i better start focusing a bit more! Daugher is going to Dads this weekend so that will give me lots of time to clear out her room- there's probable 1000 toys i can sell/donate/toss just in there! (maybe thats a little exaggerated )

What a great idea! I'm in!

I worked it out to 167 items each month plus 4 more thrown in somewhere. Can't wait to start! (All family will be gone in a couple more days, so official starting then.)

We put our cat down on Sunday, and today the kids and I took all of his stuff to the Humane Society. It was sad, but we are not planning to get a new cat right away, and the items can be put to much better use than just sitting in my basement.

So, I managed to clear out the 3 draws, the catch all counter and my laundry closet. Plus I cleaned and disinfected those areas as well. I now have 2 drawers almost empty and 1 full empty shelf.

32/2008 (15 of which were piles of stuff)

I am having a decent run of stuff on eBay. SO time consuming! Yuck. What we do for a $100 or $200 bucks

Normally I give it all away but this year we need the cash. I am going to try to unload some jewelry soon too. *sigh*

I'm up to 42/2008 - I just got rid of 5 ornaments from the Christmas tree that I've been looking at for over a month and thinking "Wow - how ugly are they?" So, in the trash they went (they were really in no shape to donate or sell - they were "sentimental" in value only, but peeling, chipping, or homemade in a bad way

Okay, so DH and I have been going great guns on the basement. How do you mamas count paper? I recycled two bins worth, but I didn't count every piece I put in there. What would you do?

ETA: Check out my total in my siggy! And that's without the paper. I really, really hope that by the end of 2008 I can have a house worthy of the "post pics of your decluttered house" thread!

More work on that cursed closet!

New total:
100/2008

I went through 6 boxes of rotting outdated stuff.
I'm in too! I don't know if I'll make it to 2008 items (I personally wouldn't count paper though I do plan to get rid of some of the many papers in this house) but just trying is going to be helpful.

So far I'm at:

Had to jump on MDC really quick to post numbers before I forget

78 items for donation from DD's dresser and 1 small basket of toys. Im planning to go through the other small basket and the shared toy box this weekend.

Total of 177/2008

Bonus! we made it to the Salvation Army this morning to donate all items and managed to return a few unwanted gifts we received for christmas!
