456 today!!!
I tore though the laundry room and kitchen drawers/cabinets. Wowzars thats a lot of crap!! Oh, and my file cabinet- which had about 5 pounds of extra paperwork in it- i only counted that as 10 total though
I brought about 200+ items to goodwill (extra kitchen stuff mostly but also lots of things i havent touched in 2 yrs that was in the laundry room and a few clothing items & a few toys)

Ok, i got a lot done today- off to reward myself with a bit of TV

How much credit do I get for tossing three bins of fabric scraps with the mental admission "I'm never going to quilt, why on earth have I saved these"?

two more items gone: 162/2008
I sent my first book via half.com today!
and my husband finally hung up my son's lamp which has been sitting in a closet for 8 months. I am going to count it because it was clutter, and now it's useful!

I'm in! We're really focusing on reducing our carbon footprint this year and I think this will be a good way for us to really look at and see our stuff/ consumption.

16/2008 - I'm tempted to stay up way too late to continue - ha!

PS - I once made a game of decluttering by the 'rule' of: everytime you leave a room, something needs to go out with you and properly gotten rid of. It was amazing how easy and quick it was to find something.

I'm so in on this! I'm hoping to get to 2008 by june
I'm going to start counting early.....in the last two days I've cleaned out my linen closet, master bath, and some of the laundry room.
I've come up with....
105 items given away ~ goodwill & freecycle
35 items for the trash ~ man thats sad! ~ but it was broken toys and bathroom stuff
2 paperbag size containers of recycleables, mostly papers ~ I'm counting this as just two items
grand total ~ 142
WOW! I'm pretty happy with my head start.

Okay, I've been lurking and pondering and I've decided I am in. I really, really need this!

I may start tomorrow, one day early, since I'd rather usher in the new year by getting things out of the house than toasting with champagne! (well, maybe I'll do both )

Thanks!!! It felt good too. Wasn't sure I should count those bills, but I am going to. I have 20 or so old medical bills and what-not that have been sitting around, taking up space, for YEARS. We're paying them off little by little every year but until then, they sit in a binder, on my mind, and we get notices on some of them still.

I definitely want to do this! We have all sorts of stuff we don't use, and our house isn't even that big. I won't be home until the 9th, however, so you all have a super jump start on me. I will see if I can clear out some of the toys and books we have accumulated here while visiting my family though...

Is there going to be a separate thread starting tomorrow or will this function as the january thread?
