Chicken pox under 12 months

Not sure if this belongs here... please move if needed.

A friend of ours has a little one with chicken pox. The little one is 9 months. Two of us are debating having a pox party to expose our wee ones, but I've heard that I should wait until 12 months for exposure (if not doing the vaccine).

Anyone have any info on this? Is it best to wait and hope for pox later?

Thanks in advance!

My dd had the cp at 11 months, and our good friend had it at 10 months....granted that's pretty close to 12 months, but their cases weren't any different in duration or severity from my ds who had it at the same time (he was 3yrs at the time).

I wouldn't do it yet -- we had a chance to expose our baby at 9 months' age and chose not to, because of the risk of complications and the fact that she wasn't yet able to communicate with us to let us know whether she was in pain or uncomfortable, etc.

We did teach her sign language and now, at 20 months' age I would feel a lot more comfortable about her being exposed than when she was younger.

We figure that we've got a good five years for her to catch it (since we're not vaxxing for it but would prefer she get it prior to starting school), and wanted to wait until she could tell us what was going on with her to be able to better respond to her needs while ill.
