What can you tell me about cervadil?

I will be 40 weeks on Wednesday and have an appt with mw tomorrow. I know for a fact that we will be discussing induction. The office will not let me go past 10 days, and I know they are worried that this baby is big - my last one was 9 lbs and this was estimated to be 9 lbs by touch at about 38 weeks. With my last my water broke and then nothing for 12 hours until they started the hellish pitocin that made me miserable. I ended up having a pp hemmorhage which I blame on the pitocin.

Anyway, my mw has mentioned that they would use cervadil which is not linked to bleeding. I was wondering if anyone else has had cervadil and perhaps some a. advice and b. vibes that labor starts sooner rather than later. I think the induction would be on Thursday or Friday. I feel like my body is really getting ready though - with some Bhs and some mucus today, so hopefully I wont even have to think about being induced.

I'm pretty sure that's the same as cytotec, just a different name... and the company who manufactures it requests multiple times on their package insert to not distribute to pregnant women. It has pretty decent risks of amniotic fluid embolism, uterine rupture (even in non VBAC cases) and maternal and infant death.

I'll double check to see if it IS the same thing really quick... but if it is... I would stay clear... That's just me though...

Yep- it is.

And it has it's own drawbacks as far as just having it goes. Such as:

Multiple vaginal exams while in place, no moving while in place, etc..

The difference between Cervidil and Cytotec is that cervidil is administered in a tampon-like device and can be removed if the uterus is hyperstimulated or baby isn't faring well. Cytotec is given as a vaginal tablet and can't be reversed once it's been absorbed.

Would I want to use either? No, of course not. But given the choice between the two I'd go with the cervidil and be monitored VERY carefully.

Not in your DDC, but saw the posting. I was induced at 42 weeks with cervadil with my DD and it was horrendous. I was thrown into serious back labor w/in 45 minutes, when they expected me to sleep through the night with it in and start laboring in 12 hours--ha! Others, however, have had great experiences with it.
