No kidding!
Background: we took him in to the pedi's office a few days after we left the hospital because he had developed blisters around his navel. She took a swab and started him on antibiotics because she figured it was staph.
We just got back from the pedi's office from our follow-up appointment, and she told us the lab confirmed Gabe had MRSA! Craptastic. The good news is it went away almost immediately; the bad news is we treated it with antibiotics. Poor kid, like it's not bad enough he had to have antibiotics at birth (because I'm GBS+), he also had 7 days worth of it to fight off this crap.
The good news is it DID respond to a first course of meds - obviously that's a good thing. I just HATE that I had to give him antibiotics so early on though! *weep*
But he's doing well, didn't even get diarrhea or thrush/yeast while he was on the meds. Regardless, I'm starting him on probiotics ASAP (wish I'd had some on hand already). I feel like such a bad mother already, *allowing* my kid to get MRSA and giving him so many antibiotics so early. If he develops asthma, I know I'm always going to blame myself.
So much for keeping his little body pristine and healthy.
